Closing on house tomorrow. Need help ASAP before I get screwed.

If anyone can give me guidance here I would REALLY appreciate it. I just had a house built for me in florida. Everything looks good except for the interior doors. The doors are 6 panel hollow with a wood grain texture. The edges of the door are rough as hell! If you run your hand up and down the door edge it will pull skin off your hand!

The painting company claims that there is no way to make these edges smooth due to the material the door is made of. I guess its MDF or some kind of particle board skins and the edges of the skin absorb the paint making it splinter rough etc. I have the same doors in my existing home 10 years old and they are reasonably smooth. The painter claims that the doors i currently are made better than the doors made now.

Is this guy screwing me? I cant believe there is a door on the market that would have 80 grit edges.

What is he doing wrong? applying too much paint? failure to sand prior to

painting?
