primer for painting a wall that was wallpapered??????

I think I've done a good job of removing the paste from the formerly wallpapered walls by first soaking with a solution of DIF/scraping and then rinsing with a three bucket routine until the wall feels clean and dry. My question is about the white primer/sizing that now remains. Does it matter what sort of primer I put on this, assuming all the paste is gone, before painting with latex? I ask since I want to use up two partial gallon cans of primer (one is for priming under wallpaper but manuf says OK for paint as well) and then go into a 5 gal can of low cost primer from HD. Just wondering if that white paint that remains on the wall has different properties regarding a good base versus a wall that has regular paint.

Use Porter Paints Blankit to prime cleaned wall - you'll have good luck.

Don't skimp on good primer, I did and I have nod to redo the walls.

I use Zinsser 123 and I had one wall that was real bad and I used Zinsser BIN and my walls are so nice!

Hi christophern, Thanks for your advice. I primed on a small painted wall to see how it goes. This surface had bubble before but when i primed to see what it does,the bubbles came up again. I think i cant do anything for these bubbles now. Only the bit that i have plastered should be fine to paint but i am really upset with the other surface that had bubbled and is not plastered. I am been doing this since weeks to sort out these bubbles but no good results. Atlast i am just going to paint the whole wall and see what happens and wait till the paint dry so that i can burst those bubbles and flatten them. I hope this shouldn't look very messy. Please let me know if you have any idea. Thanks.

Painting over primer - dust in house!

I don't think I'd wash primer. Not contractors clean-up, but for projects of my own and general 'us dust', I have a couple of soft bristle brushes that attach to my hand vacs and shop vacs. Grass cloth walls in my living and dining rooms. Amazon soft brush attachment And I have this one by Gibtool. I use them both. ETA: I think I got that corrected, I don't know why my link came up as showing car brakes LOL

Never use a low cost primer.

Zinsser products are the best and they are a fair price.

I agree - depending on where you live there are a variety of good quality primer products. Zinsser makes quality products that are widely availible. Porter Paints (PPG) is very popular here in the mid south. Their retail stores sell Zinsser too.

Gripper primer at HD is the one and only for every purpose!! It's the best on the market and has worked on every application I have ever used it on (even over wallpaper sizing). That DIF wallpaper remover worked great, too. I have discovered that using as hot water as you can stand to work with does the trick after scoring the face of the paper with a Paper Tiger.

any good quality fast drying alkyd primer. Avoid laytex primers.
