Julier, I used salted.

And yes the powdered sugar is to "texture". If you like a thicker icing use more sugar. if you want it more like a glaze use less. I never measure for icing.

Ann, thanks for sharing. My dad's 89th birthday is coming up in a week, and he has fond memories of his mother's cinnamon rolls. I'm going to make this for him for a pre-birthday treat....I'm afraid chocolate is the only way to go for the REAL birthday! :)

I'd like to bring this to a Sunday brunch. Would it be okay to make the cake the night before or should I bake it early Sunday morning? And if I make it the night before, how should I store it?

Lisamaria, This cake was still great the next day. So no problem with baking it the night before. I would just ice it while it is still warm. Let it cool and then cover loosely with plastic wrap. Make sure it is cool before covering because you don't want it to sweat.

Ann, I made the cake this afternoon and took it over to my dad for his 89th birthday. We all had a piece of cake BEFORE dinner....you get to do things like that when you're 89!

What a fabulous cake!! The texture is amazing. So rich and moist. It was a huge hit. My dad told mom he thought he'd just skip the special dinner she prepared for him, and have a second piece of cake. And, he'd have another piece tomorrow morning for breakfast.

This recipe is a keeper, and I'll gladly serve it for luncheons, gathering of the Bunko group, etc. Thanks so much for sharing.

Do you think the cake is even better served warm? I know I can make the cake the night before serving it and it will taste great, but I'm wondering if it would be even better if I baked it the same day and served it slightly warm.

Lisamaria. I prefer the cake served warm. Which is also the way I like real cinnamon rolls. I just warm up individual pieces of leftover cake in the microwave.

I wouldn't underbake it. Just warm for a few seconds. Don't over "Nuke" it. Best to do a few slices at a time, just enough to warm up and not have the icing dripping all over.
