Surprise 30th Party

I am throwing a surprise party for oldest daughter

Michele with the help with one of her friends. We

are having it on a Saturday evening in March at

a local Bar and Grill, it is all girls that will be there. I

am thinking that we should play some kind of game

or something to make it more exciting.

Any suggestions?

I'd have to say I'm not a big fan of games at adult parties. I'd rather socialise with the other party goers.

I agree with Colleen. She's going to be 30? Best thing you can give her is to treat her as an adult. Adults don't need party games, they know how to chat and enjoy a party without that.

And I can just imagine the other bar patrons standing around, shaking their heads, if your group starts playing "Chick Flick Charades" or recipe scattegories. You don't want your gift to your daughter to be a major case of embarrassment, I don't think.

Some more awesome ideas, thanks. I love the cut rose idea, I am a member at Costco too! I was thinking about cutting things way back, like Henry suggested to get things looking healthier and greener. Will perennials that are already done blooming grow new green growth if I prune them back? I keep having visions of my beds in late summer, after I have sort of neglected them during August, they're not party ready that's for sure! If I keep everything fertilized and watered, can I avoid past blooming perennials from looking scraggly and yellowed out? We've had 40 days and 40 nights of rain here this Spring/Summer, so everything is so lush and green so far. About the RRD in PA - unfortunately I had my first confirmed case (by Ann actually), in 2003. At that time she told me I was the first she heard of so far East. I am in Bucks county. Sadly my property is surrounded by wild Multiflora that is badly infected, so every year I dig out several of my own roses that have been infected. Those 3 letters give me the shivers!

Thanks so much, guys! Maire Cate, here's the closeup of the necklace. I bought it from my favorite eBay seller, Waly Beads. Everything they sell is made of natural stones, but I bought this one some time ago and I don't remember the description. I received several compliments on it, and people were surprised to learn it came from eBay and probably cost less than $15. Nope, not me! I actually LOVE entertaining and having parties. We recently went to a surprise 50th BDay party for a friend and I told my DH, do NOT ever surprise me with a party. I like to plan my parties, do the food, do the invitations, etc. For me, all that stuff is half the fun of the party! I would not be happy at the idea of all those people knowing the "secret" and planning without me. I have GIVEN a surprise baby shower before. A long time ago. And it turned out great. But shortly afterwards, in retrospect, it occured to me that it would have been better if she knew. And I will also say that of all the surprise parties I've been to, only a very small percentage of the guests of honor didn't somehow find out in advance. Guess I'm sort of a surprise party spoil sport! LOL

I agree, just getting a group of convivisal people together is plenty of fun! And food and drinks besides!

I totally disagree, games are great!! I brought the games to a 50th last night and it was so fun, we all laughed and laughed. Games bring everyone together and it's great to get things rolling.

I agree with the disagreers. If this is in a bar and grille, games just don't seem to be appropriate. These are grown-ups having snacks, a few drinks and conversation.

I'm on the fence with this one. I hosted a party at a club with a bunch of gals (I was in my mid-30's at the time) and I did 1 game. It actually involves the gals' conversations. When everyone is there incl. the birthday gal-you pass out some type of button, badge, a lei or even a string of the colored beads they throw out in parades...one to each person. In advance think of a commonly used word-I used the word-WORK. I told everyone that this was a party & there'd be no talk about work-just have fun. And..if anyone hears you say the word 'work'? They get to take your beads! The gal with the most strings of beads at the end of the party-gets a gift. Everyone had fun with it as it didn't really seem like a game.

I love games at parties, however a bar setting to me would be odd for the games that I know of.

The game Sharon mentioned may be pulled off at a bar.

I say if the group you are enviting enjoy that type of party...go for it!

What ever you decide, hope you have a great party!

I, too, think Sharon's game would be appropriate for a public setting. Charades, stuff-in-the-purse games, most things appropriate for private parties, just wouldn't go. I agree that friends having drinks and snacks together and enjoying each other's company would be enough.
