window treatments for inswinging casements?

All of the windows in our new home are inswinging casements. I need ideas for window treatments. Most of the rooms have groupings of these windows side by side.

These might work for you, usually shears are hung on them but any curtain will do.

I have the same "problem." Right now I have the PO's ordinary drapes over all the casements; they look OK, but I can't open a window!

I was considering the swinging rods that prettyphysicslady noted, and also the possibility of mounting a rod on each casement, so that the curtain simply swings back with the window. I think that that would look best with lace or sheers, though, and I like something a little more substantial. But the swinging rods have the other problem of having to have room on each side of the window for the length of the rod.

You can always do shades, mounted on the windows themselves, not on the frames.

It's a conundrum, all right.

If it were our home I'd go with valances on the two kitchen windows and panels on both the french doors and the dining window. For the french doors I'd use swing arm rods that would open when you opened the doors and could be closed after you closed the door. I would hang all rods at the same height for uniformity. Check out sash curtain rods which mount almost flat on the surface. They come in traditional flat shape or small diameter rods. I like the film or you can use the window spray on frosting although you will need a steady hand or it won't be even coverage. If you do the spray, you can use make a pattern on the glass with narrow masking tape which leaves you a nice even area to look through but from the outside it is still difficult to see through unless you are right against the glass like a peeping tom.

Shades and drapes will be practical and make an attractive window. Have you considered moving TV out of the glare, right of the dining room door? They make corner cabinets for them if you prefer it cornered. Then float the sofa facing the dining room, aligned with the wall left of the FP where you can hang art centered 5' above the floor. That leaves the play space behind the sofa. The chair can go where the TV is now or maybe by the window, but it looks awfully big. Upgrade your lamps.

A thought might be cafe-style curtains and rods mounted to the casement its self. This style has a very vintage feel and is what I have done with my swing windows. I hemmed mine to match the length of the casement but they could be made long without interfering with use of the window.
