Do You Have An Animal Skin Carpet?

We are in the final stages of our half house remodel. Decorating and buying furniture and installing the antelope skin carpet in the Cowboy Chic den is all to be done. I was just curious if anyone else has and animal skin carpet and has pictures they can post. I'd love to see it.

I don't have a picture because the house it torn to bits, but we have a few. I have very large sheep skins (white) in my formal living room. They're like a huge fluffy rug and I use that softness to be a juxtaposition against the rather angular lines of our modern pieces in there. I love them and DS (who is 2) thinks they're his personal cuddle rugs.

In my bedroom, which will be art deco in style, we have purchased a very large cowskin in bronze and black. It will be the floor covering over a bamboo floor in the sitting area.

I like throwing in a bit of a suprise or whimsey in every room and I found that cowskin to be a great whimsey piece. Unexpected texture and form, in a room that will be rather elegant :)

I don't have a picture, either, but I'm replacing the carpeting on our stairs with a faux hide, something like a cheetah. The floors at the bottom of the stairs are charcoal slate in the entry, and they abut the cherry plank floors in our adjacent dining room. I'd describe our furnishings as transitional/traditional, and I do like the element of surprise thrown in the mix.

There is one other place I know of you are likely to read about composting animals. The humanure handbook website forum. It wasn't till I started humanure composting that I learned how to get a really good hot compost pile that would easily handle rotting carcass and control smell and other animals digging it up. So what have we composted. I really can't even count the bones and scraps of animals we have eaten since we always compost all food scraps that don't go to the chickens or worm bins. It is a firm rule here to avoid putting anything stinky in the trash can. So, animal bodies in our compost bin lately. 3 sick chickens we didn't want to make the rest of the flock sick. Any dead squirrels we find around the house. 12 rats we caugh And all fish parts that the chickens don't get, I've found that burying fish parts causes critters to dig up the yard or whatever plant I put over it so composting seems to be the best way for use to take care of it. I agree that this is an advanced composting thread. No one who is not confident of their ability to manage a hot compost pile should be putting dead bodies in it.

You'll regret it if you don't remove them, sorry. See previous discussions on this linked below. Also, please be sure you are using a tested and safe canning recipe. Many on the net are NOT safe recipes for canning. Use the approved recipe in the Ball Blue Book or the one from NCHFP the National Center for Home Food Processing. There are also many recipes here that a search will pull up. The recommendation for pre-squeezing is so you will have a thicker sauce. What varieties are you growing? Many of the more common hybrids have tougher skins bred into them for shipping purposes. Inconsistent moisture levels in the soil or excessively high air temps can contribute to the problem as the plants try to conserve moisture when stressed by those factors but for the most part it is a varietal issue. We have a frieze as well. Love it. Has cream, caramel, brown and a touch of black in it. What I love about it most is the way it feels under foot. Warm, soft and cozy. I didn't think it was true when told this but it cleans super easy. We have a cat that got sick on it a couple of times and with a little detergent and water it came right up. As far as wear goes, there are different grades that can help with that, ours is middle of the road and has done well, but we don't have kids and the cats aren't allowed up there anymore. I haven't lost anything in it either, but again that could be an issue maybe depending on the grade or thread length chosen. We love ours, have had no regrets and now I'm planning on getting a large piece to use on the hardwood floors in the living room.

I work with a company out of New Hampshire, USA that imports cowhide rugs from Ancient Sardes, Turkey. They are gorgeous! The shop in USA draws out the pattern and also allows their customers to draw out a pattern, to make it exclusive. And the prices are not disturbing (range from $250.00-$900.00). My clients love it.

Thanks everyone. This (wall to wall) carpeting will not be an element of surprise or unexpected since it's going in a room of leather furniture, wood ceilings, cowhide (real) on a wall, leather faux finished walls, animal mounts, large stone fireplace, etc. I'm calling it the "icing on the cake" of this half house remodel that's into it's 9 ninth month (sigh) I'm not the decorating diva that many of you are and I'm hoping it helps fill in gaps of my (under) decorating. I just don't know how to put things together so I don't have a lot of "things". Was just hoping to oogle over someone else's animal print carpet till I could oogle over my own :) Here is a photo of the carpet from the Karastan website. Geneva, those rugs are beautiful :)

i have a longhorn cowhide (brown & white--spotted & speckled) in the den. sorry, no pics. it's very nice and soft underfoot.

Either :) I have real on the wall but (naturally) the wall to wall is faux. I was hoping to come across someone that had a picture of their wall to wall animal print carpet.
