I worked closely with a neighbor who went on a similar diet and her drastic changes (following the guidelines of her physician) really turned her health issues around. I hope the same for you.

Are you needing any low-carb recipes? We low-carb all the time. Personally, I don't think I could ever consume (or afford, for that matter - LOL) 8 oz. of meat and 2-cups of steamed veggies for one meal. It is also my understanding that consuming too much protein at once can convert to glucose.

Foods that help keep you feel full longer:

1. Greek yogurt

3. vinegar
4. beans
5. grapefruit
6. cinnamon
7. kale
8. green tea
9. goji berries

10. chia seeds

Congrats on your decision (especially to dump the white flour)! Shocking your system can be effective for weight loss and/or a number of other reasons for giving it a try. Please understand though that unless there are other medical reasons - 800 calories/day isn't for long-term.

Also, remember that consuming that few calories you're bound to lose muscle as well as water/fat. So, exercising to use those muscles is really important. Keep it simple and easy. You won't have the energy for a hard core work-out and it may discourage you from your goals. Just grab a couple cans of soup and do a few light exercises 6 days/week - say, 10 minutes. And, of course, if there is a medical issue, don't even do that without your doctor's approval. If you can though you'll really reap the rewards down the line for just those 10 minutes of light stuff each day.

After the first few days your appetite will drop off so also watch for signs of anorexia after about two weeks, or so.

You will feel hungry. I think you need your dietician to give you a list of things you can eat between meals and still lose weight. Hard boiled eggs?

Good luck, I'd sure need it on that diet! I'm OK at giving up what I like but not good at all at eating what I don't like. 14 days into the 17 day diet I quit eating altogether, it was easier than that blasted diet. (sigh)

Just be careful, 800 calories isn't much for a long term weight loss program.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I've read several times (and from several different sources) that dropping below 1200 calories a day is not a good idea. From what I remember, that's mainly because your body goes into starvation mode and slows your metabolism way down. Then, when you go off the diet and start eating a higher number of calories, you have to work twice as hard to get your metabolism back to normal because if you don't, you gain weight much faster and easier. Now mind you, it's been a few years since I've read that, so maybe there've been new studies and it's now considered fine to go that low. If so, never mind...

Low carb is good. Low fat not so much. You should be able to eat and enjoy nuts, nut butters (on apples, for example), and full fat dairy products, especially if you can get them from animals not fed a lot of grain, i.e. animals on pasture.

Friends of mine that I have helped with no carb (but not low fat) diets have lost many pounds, never hungry and eating with pleasure.

Meat keeps you feeling full. Simple. Plain and it's no carb. Be strict about carbs and the pounds will melt. No sugar . Correct to banish sourdough and all doughs. Grains be gone, at least fora while, but gone. No ketchup, sneaky bad boy. No fruit. No starchy veggies. Meats, poultry, cheeses, eggs, egg whites and green veggies. Count carbs. No to the pastas,breads, grains, rice,quinoa. They all are carbs.

This works, if you are strict. Be strict for as long as you can. Keep your eyes open and be aware of trendy but carbfull saboteurs. After a 2 or3 week strict intro phase, and pride inducing success (which comes with strictness) you may then introduce slowly the notsobad players. But why lose 2 pounds a week when you can lose four or five being uber adherent to the lowest carb possible. Forget calories in my book. Worked for me for many years. Very healthy..don't count fat or calories. Just strictly carbs. Even garlic has carbs.

The diet is medically supervised, one visit per week plus any other communication desired in between. For the first three weeks, no exercise other than light walks. That is supposed to preserve existing muscle. Then there's a reevaluation of muscle mass, health stats, weight loss rate, and exercise is reintroduced. The diet has been around since the 1980s. It's four phases and claims a more effective readjustment to eating regular food than Atkins and other low carb diets. DH lost six pounds in thirty-six hours and I gained a half pound, but we think all of this is water effect, so far. 64 ounces of water is difficult for me, but I assume that I will get accustomed to it. I appreciate your support and offers of information. Very. Much. The good news is that when I do reintroduce carbs, wheat sourdough is preferred, so I mean to mine Plllog's experiment results!

Kudos to you both for stepping forward from the pack of thousands of overweight individuals saying that they really should lose weight, researching the best diet to use, asking for or receiving advice on dieting, and making plans to diet.

These processes can go on for years without any weight loss because while they're still thinking about and talking about it, you'll actually be doing it. Congratulations for taking that leap toward a better life.

GOOD FOR YOU! YOU CAN DO IT! Set small goals and rejoice when you reach each one. We will all cheer with you! In preparation for DD's wedding, I lost 20 lbs low carbing. I didn't find it onerous. I even had to have my dress altered at the last minute, because it was too big!

Is your food all pre-packaged or will you be doing some cooking? If you will be cooking, you might like this recipe. I bake a batch to keep in the freezer. Ask your nutritionist if this will fit within you diet.

If the 2 eggs are too much fat in your diet, I think you could substitute 3 egg whites without much loss to the recipe.

Parmesan Spinach Cups

12 ounces fresh spinach, (see Note)
1/2 cup part-skim ricotta cheese, or low-fat cottage cheese
1/2 cup finely shredded Parmesan cheese, plus more for garnish
2 large eggs, beaten
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Preheat oven to 400ðF.

Pulse spinach in three batches in a food processor until finely chopped. Transfer to a medium bowl. Add ricotta (or cottage cheese), Parmesan, eggs, garlic, salt and pepper; stir to combine.

Coat 8 cups of the muffin pan with cooking spray. Divide the spinach mixture among the 8 cups (they will be very full).

Bake the spinach cakes until set, about 20 minutes.

Let stand in the pan for 5 minutes. Loosen the edges with a knife and turn out onto a clean cutting board or large plate. Serve warm, sprinkled with more Parmesan, if desired.
