If you think working with Subs is difficult, try working with a "I know it all" husband. I'll agree, he has been in the architect/construction business for over 50 years, but he is stuck in the 70's when it comes to details and decorating that I want to do. I can't begin to count the times he said, "It just won't work"....but never tells me why...it is just "You won't understand". I swore when we built this last house, never again!!...but we are back in the planning stages of doing it again...or I should say HE is.... I want to buy a ready-built home, but he thinks he can build one being the contractor himself (of course, he will not be using a tool), and this one took 3 years to complete.....and I want this next one (if we do build) completed in my lifetime!!!! He drew all the plans and said I could pick out all of the inside stuff, but when I say I want something, he finds fault in it all.....UGH!!! You all could have it worse!!!...and I am sure I will be ready to say, "My way or the highway"....but I don't know which of us will be using that highway!

I think Medicare should be privatized too. I'm not in support of any government-operated healthcare systems. Yes, I realize that buying individual plans was expensive. The government has messed up the insurance market in this country for a very long time. A true free market plan with tax credits, health savings accounts so people pay for routine care on their own, the ability to sell insurance across state lines, and pricing transparency is the best approach to bring down costs, with providing appropriate assistance for low income individuals. I like much of Ben Carson's proposed plan. https://www.bencarson.com/issues/health-care/ Before Obamacare, there were also options for people with pre-existing conditions, including high-risk pools in 35 states and eight other states being guaranteed issue. It was not quite the dark ages people make it out to be. http://legalinsurrection.com/2014/02/before-obamacare-what-about-those-pre-existing-conditions/  Further, those with pre-existing conditions may be able to get insurance under Obamacare but that doesn't mean they're getting healthcare. http://thefederalist.com/2016/11/02/4-reasons-obamacare-also-lemon-people-pre-existing-conditions/  Fortunately, it looks like we are not going to find out how the government can mess things up even worse than they already have. Any attempts at single payor have been quickly thwarted here, e.g. ColoradoCare, Vermont's plan towards single payor... the progressives didn't even try the public option when they pushed Obamacare through against the public's will. People don't want it, so we should focus on fixing the system with free market reforms.

Vietnam was a major part of my teen/college years and yet I knew very little about it. didn't get to watch tonight's installment (9/25) but there were moments in each of previous ones when I was just holding my breath. i remember the famous pictures on news... that little girl running naked down the road because of napalm burns... the guy being shot in the head on the street. but seeing the film of those events was completely different. i know schools couldn't possibly fit this into their history curriculum, but should be required... Vietnam was NOT "Forest Gump"!

The bottom line is that there will always be both predators and prey in all living things. If we use good sense we do what we can to not become prey. There is healthy fear and unhealthy fear. Believing that crime lurks around every corner that mass media and social media promotes is unhealthy fear. This would include the nonsense that all men are potential rapists, women are approaching strangers in stores and malls to lure them into human trafficking, any stranger who smiles or speaks to you is a threat etc. That unhealthy fear will eventually make one prey. The relatively few true predators out there will always be able to pick the weak out of the herd. Unhealthy fear is weakness. Healthy fear is knowing that there are some bad people and things in the world. Healthy fear is being aware of your surroundings. It is locking your doors and taking normal precautions. Healthy fear is Not because you expect to become a victim but because you are realistic enough to understand that bad things happen. Healthy fear is taking preventative measures but never allowing fear to paralyze you from enjoying life. I part company with Elmer when it comes to dives versus nice establishments. The restaurant //hospitality trade has always been rife with corruption on many levels and it is not just the customers. From back door street drug dealing by cooks and local "thugs" in the local dives to women, kink, designer drugs and other services etc. in high end establishments often frequented by the wealthy many of who are politicians or the owners of the high end places themselves. Raye Smith made a lot of good points. The examples cited in the OP were annoying behaviors but nothing criminal. Paranoia is not healthy fear and I think Kath realizes that herself. She just needs to work on getting past that and devise a system to help her DD gain the skills of surviving the life of a young adult. The world is no less safe than it ever was. But for some reason we have become a fear drive society. We tend to divide people by gender, sex and race making shard human issues and threats more difficult to solve. On the other hand we blend criminal statistics into one big ball of fear without dividing them properly into their sub groups so we can view them in clear perspective and determine where and if the real threats are to ourselves. New age feminists refuse to acknowledge that a young women having a consensual 3 way with guys in front of their friends is not in a good position to say no to the 4th guy. Being drunk doesn't absolve one of responsibility no matter if you are a man or a woman. If you want respect as an equal then act and take responsibility as an equal. Only Kath's DD can make the decision to stay or leave her job. But if she does stay it can be a positive opportunity for her to learn how to deal with people and become mentally tougher which is a good life lesson for all to have.
