Help Identify this cake

I found this pic in my gallery . I know that I must have gotten the recipe here but I honestly don't know the name of it.

In going through all my recipes I found one for Apple Cake. The ingredients sound like it might be the recipe. The recipe was from here but I neglected to copy the name...my bad.

Anyone recognize this?

Thanks Ruthanna that's it !!! I posted the pic on that thread. I want to make this next weekend for Thanksgiving dinner. It definitely screams Fall!

I had to read this twice. Looks like from the second post that the OP did not encourage the family to attend the wedding - the 'adult' part of her simply decided not to push the issue and agreed not to attend, herself. Dirtunder, are you upset by the events, or are you upset by the silence? Sometimes the elephant in the room left undiscussed is far more painful then the event itself. At any rate, we all benefit by setting emotions aside and by learning how to talk to our families about what upsets us. BTW, is anyone talking about the fact that brother is an alcoholic and had (has) sexual boundary issues? This seems like a forest through the trees topic to me.

My father's family had a chocolate version recipe and we called it "Dad's 3-Hole Cake"... always one of my favorites, especially when frosted with a cooked white frosting that isn't icky sweet, or just sprinkled w/ confectioner's sugar. The batter makes great cupcakes too. ETA: re the MW cake in a mug, I made up a gf recipe to try last year and it came out pretty good. I used a soup mug (wider and more shallow) rather than a coffee mug and I'd recommend that to help it cook more evenly in the MW.

I'm not so scientific. I think my 6” pans are 3”. Whatever they are, whether 6” or any other size, or deep mold like bundt, or loaf, I just make the batter, and fill to what looks right. If I have leftover batter, I just bake it off separately, either as a tester, or to use in something else. If I were baking commercially, I'd perfect the recipe amounts. As it is, I can't be bothered. I do have some anti-doming devices, but they don't work well enough, IMHO, to bother with most of the time. A cake fills best when perfectly flat, or even lightly dished. It's still going to need evening up. Many people prefer fewer taller layers (less “crust” to get rid of), and just slice them to the size they want. Others just make sheet cakes and cut their layers out of those. I just realized. My “eyeball” measure is about an inch from the top of the pan. That's what the half full and 2/3 full are both telling you. So the best way to get equal amounts of batter in each pan is to use a scale. For less formal, I just pour some batter in one pan and let it settle while pouring some in the other, then eyeball the height back and forth until the pans are filled properly. Usually once to start, a second time to divide the batter and a third to adjust and clean out the batter bowl. Measuring batter by volume is a good way to compare the recipe with the how much your pans will hold, but not an easy way to fill them. If you're worried your pans will overflow, you can line the sides with parchment paper or extenders made for the purpose. Don't fuss over precision unless there are judges involved. It's just cake. It's supposed to be fun. What's important is getting your batter in the pans promptly, a good whack to get out air pockets, and get them right in the oven. The moisture or acid acting part of the baking powder is already at work. If you leave the batter sitting around, it'll discharge and deflate. Some recipes do that on purpose for denser cakes, only lifted by the heat action and eggs, but if that's not your goal, make sure your oven has been at temperature for some time, so that the walls, not just the air, are hot, and you get your batter into the pans, and the pans into the oven promptly.

It's really delicious. I made it without the frosting and will make it again very soon. Very moist.

IIRC, Lindac's apple cake was almost the same but with 1.5 cups sugar. And wasn't it a caramel sauce that was passed and Linda's son called it cake gravy?

That cake does scream Fall. The perfect dessert for our Thanksgiving.

Westsider, Linda uses my caramel sauce and calls it cake gravy. Of course it is the perfect caramel sauce for cake, pie, bread and butter pudding, brownies, etc......

Actually Lindas "Cake Gravy" is different from your Caramel Sauce - I saved her original recipe that lists both:

Apple Cake with Cake Gravy LindaC
4 cups chopped apples
1 ÃÂ½ cups sugar ( can use ÃÂ½ splenda)
ÃÂ½ cup raisins ( I use chopped other fruit like dried peaches or apricots or craisins)
Mix and let sit for about an hour ( less is OK)
2 cups flour
1 ÃÂ½ tsps baking soda ( I like ÃÂ¾ tsps soda and ÃÂ¾ tsps BP)
ÃÂ¾ tsps salt
1T cinnamon ÃÂ¼ tsp nutmeg
Mix dry ingredients
2 eggs
ÃÂ¾ cups veggie oil
1 tsp vanilla
beat together
1 cup chopped pecans if desired.
Add the oil and eggs to the apples and sugar and dried fruit. Stir in the dry mixture and add nuts if desires.
Pour into greased 9 by 13 pan and bake 350 until doneÃ¢ÂÂ¦..40 to 50 minutes.
Serve with cake gravy if desired.

Cake Gravy
Mix 1 cup sugar
1 stick butter
ÃÂ½ cup evap milk
1 tsp vanillaÃ¢ÂÂ¦.
Mix all and cook all in a sauce pan for about 3 minutes.
Serve warm over the cake.

An altenative from Ann T
Caramel Sauce
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup cream
pinch of salt
2 teaspoons vanilla
To make caramel sauce:
bring butter, sugars, cream and salt to a boil and then simmer for 3 or 4 minutes. Remove from heat and add the vanilla. Home Cookin Chapter: Recipes From Thibeault's Table

I made it and it is as delicious as I remembered it to be.l.

Silly me tried to get it out of the pan while it was still to warm. The result was not a pretty sight.

Because it was still very warm, I was able to put it back together but not enough to ice and serve in slices......so it will be served in dessert bowls with cake gravy and I'll call it Apple Cake Pudding!
