how to clean vintage satinato glass?
Comments (21)Well, shucks, moonshadow, I do enjoy the hunt :) And I'm learning a lot as I go along, too. At another Goodwill on the same day, I found a *gorgeous*, amazing, more and more incredible as you realize the kinds of mastery involved in it serigraph/embossing by Don Munz, an abstracted moonlit landscape. It's *nothing* like what he's doing now, in case you look at his current work. It's signed/numbered AND with all documentation on the back from when he sold it the first time through Fidelity Arts back in 1982. No way anyone can contest the provenance of this thing, which is why I paid $40 for it, rather than my usual cap of $20 :). I've found that other serigraphs by him from the same era are selling for $1200 each right now. It's framed nicely but I'm going to change out the acrylite to UV/non-glare. It's truly a masterwork of printmaking. I'll try to take a pic when I can. It's already up in our house in a prominent place of honor :)...See MoreHow can we clean up a kerosene spill on wood?
Comments (13)Here's what we've decided. First try: We sprinkled baking soda and kitty litter on the stain and replaced the mudders' protective paper. We'll sweep up and replace those two things every couple of days for the next few weeks and see what effect it has. If the odor persists that long, we'll try sanding and sealing. If it's still there, we'll bite the bullet and replace the plywood; if it's gone, we won't. We have about 6 weeks till carpeting goes in, so in that time we should have a good idea of what's happening. Thanks for your help!...See MoreBeadboard in the vintage kitchen...how far up wall?
Comments (10)When determining wainscot height in any house or room, I like to look at several factors. In addition to ceiling height, Check your window sills, and how it may line up with or above below. Also alignment with adjacent rooms or cabinetry, even existing light switch placement comes into play, so the switch plate cover is well within (or above) the paneling and trim. Follow the proposed top line all the way around the room, and see if any conflicts arise as to how finishing off the panel end and cap trim. There is really no right or wrong height, but a few inches up or down can really make a difference. In the right room, I kind of like the 5' +- height, it gives a bit of a bungalow feel, and can really cozy up a room, even if painted a light color....See MoreHow to clean up a marble top on buffet
Comments (9)I have honed marble countertops in my kitchen, and I have never had a stain that required more than the regular stone cleaner spray I use everyday. Until lily pollen! OMG...that orange stuff made nasty yellow stains that the stone cleaner didn't touch. They were so hideous I figured I had nothing to lose so I dabbed straight up bleach on them with a Q-tip. They came right up, and it didn't even etch! Definitely test a tiny bit first...and if your finish is polished DEFINITELY test it...but it worked great on my honed. Good luck...pretty piece!...See Moreparty_music50
