granite and tile choices with maple cabinets and dark floor

I would love to hear suggestions for a granite and backsplash design (this is going to be mighty important because I have two walls that are going to need backsplash all the way high...

This is what I have been looking at.

Ani, this is gorgeous!!! And I think it's a great choice for your kitchen. The wide bar will give it a chance to really show its stuff, and the coloring is delicate enough not to overwhelm your soft cabinets. The green tone is a nice contrast to the warm tone in the stain and the red in the floor, and the yellowness picks up the yellowness in the stain so it both contrasts and blends. That's a very good trick!

For backsplash tiles I'd choose something simple and soft. Maybe a cream tone that goes with the paint (I'm assuming that it's already painted the final color). A pale green would look also nice, but I wouldn't want to blend in with that gorgeous granite. A neutral backdrop will make that stone sing! If you want to put a few accents in the backsplash you could inlay a few scraps from the granite :)

thanks plllog! I like it too- but my confidence in my choices has been somewhat shaken after I saw how my cabinets turned out.
BTW its not really green - it looks like that due to the florescent lighting in the warehouse- its more of a brown...with grey and black lines. I am going to take a door to the warehouse tommorrow and see if I can post another pic for you all to see.

I hope someone sees this and lends some advice! We weren't expecting to have to stay in our house as we listed it but now we are staying. Long story:( So, the countertops MUST GO! I need help with an inexpensive but good looking solution. We are likely taking out the 6" backsplash behind the cooktop and the riser so that the countertop can come out just a tad but not so many cuts. Maybe make it another seating area. I've received quotes on Giallano Ornamental granite @$28-30/sqft which comes out to a LOT! lol! Looking at quartz but omg. I'm overwhelmed to say the least. Black appliances stay; sink needs replacing but thinking staying with stainless but undermount. Thanks for any advice! The cabinets are maple, floors are Acacia EVP by Lumber Liquidators. Painting cabinets could happen but our cabinet guy said he'd cry since they're maple. HELP! and Thanks!

Lol - I just finished looking through the FKB, wondered where all the color was, went to the categories page. Out of all of the kitchens posted there: 3 have red counters 2.06% 7 gray 4.82% 14 gold 9.65% 15 brown 10.34% 16 green 11.03% 16 white/cream 11.03% 36 mixed 24.82% 38 black 26.20% page error for blue counters, but I know I saw some. Hmm, and I forgot to include wood counters, of which there are 17. Sorry to hijack a bit, Astrid. I'm trying to match counter colors with light maple cabs, too, and am watching your thread. I'd love to end up with a cherry or walnut over one of the cabinet runs. I didn't see anything but didn't look through the "mixed countertops" category. Total = 145 (not including blue or non-categorized)

What color stain do they have on the cabinets? Light, medium, dark? Personally, I think oak floors with it's heavy graining will be too busy. The countertops have a very busy, contrasting pattern that will compete with anything you put on the floors or backsplash. I would suggest looking at maple or birch floors that have very little graining in a different stain. Or look for a middle toned like a beige with brown undertones (not pink undertones) large size porcelain or ceramic tiles. Or lastly look at cork floor tiles, not the floating type. Cork tends to be busy too, but there are patterns that don't have a lot of contrast. Here's laxsupermom's cork floors. Either color on it's own doesn't have much contrast. For backsplash, go with something quiet and classic. A single field tile rather than a pattern or contrasting colors or sheens. Subways in a running bond or herringbone pattern. Or a larger sized tile in a solid color like this.

Since you are keeping the floor tile, I would start with that first. Then choose the cabinet color you like that goes with the floor and from there you can find the right granite to go with both those. Keep in mind the floor tile may have looked peachy at the granite slab yard but in different light and around other elements it might be the more beige you thought prior. Do you have an image of the floor tile? Or the cab door? here is an image of the cab I tried to find. Here are some ideas of tile floors, cherry cabs and granite counters. LOL! That's what I get for going against my usual but-monitors-are-all-different spiel :) (On my screen it's a pale willow green with spruce blue and yellow moss lines :) ) The colors you describe as the real thing don't affect the fact that it's a gorgeous piece of stone. The lights and darks would still be the same and that's what gives it its life :)

I'd say the same thing for the backsplash as I did before. Especially if you do the potrack. You'll have lots going on on the wall, so do a simple tile that doesn't compete with or blend with the granite.

The one thing you might want to think about is color accents. That's the only thing I don't see in what you've shared (since the real stone is so neutral). Do you have cannisters, ornaments, etc., that will provide a little punch of color? Or clutter? That's all it would take :)

Trust yourself more. You really are doing fine!
