I'm going to be reading this carefully, as I am going to be working around the floor also. Actually, we are going to replace a small portion of our kitchen floor and do some sort of border around it.

Measured my floor tile and, for what it's worth, they are 14 inches not 12inches. Tile extends over to breakfast nook. Ours is essentially an L shaped kitchen, plus island with cooktop. Another wall has the double ovens and pantries.

Anyone have pictures or ideas? Similar problem complicating their decision? We would REALLY like to finalize cabinet and granite decisions very soon as I feel like I've been agonizing over this for months! Plus Lowes has a discount that supposedly ends the end of this month. Had no idea it would be so difficult.

I, too, kept my ceramic floor tile -- having installed it just 5 years ago when we moved into the house. Remember that the light that you view your current floor tile in will alter the way it looks. It may not be the granite making it look peachy -- it could be the surrounding light. It might be better to take a granite sample home to your kitchen, keeping in mind that if you change your lighting (as I did), this may impact the color scheme.

Many people on the forum have also discovered that their floor and cabinet color are also manipulated by the wall color -- people on the this forum and decorating forum have helped them change "pinkish" colored white cabs into a more desirable hue thru wall colors.

Thanks. I will try that: They didn't have a sample of the light colored granite I was considering, but will later this week, so I could bring it home. I do have some samples of ubatuba and tan brown, and they are fine with the flooring.
My existing walls are a quiet, pretty neutral green.
I could also change from the Medallion Barcelona in cherry with pecan finish to a maple in chestnut finish and see if that helped...

I got new cabs and granite with an existing slate floor and I agree with the above - bring the samples into your home with similar lighting that will be in your finished kitchen.

You really need to give up all pre-conceived notions about color and go with what matches the floor. The bright side is that it does narrow down the seemingly endless possibilities. That really is a good thing.

So you don't think it would be a mistake to go with a dark granite with cherry Medallion cabinets in pecan, since it coordinates with the light beige flooring?

Also remember your granite will be on the cabinet and not the floor. It's more important that the cabinet color looks good with the floor and does not make the floor look peachy if you want to avoid that. Try it all in place in your kitchen.

If your kitchen is a U-shape, try to get two sample doors and place them across from each other to see if the reflection changes the tile color.

Dark granite looks good with a cherry cabinet, especially if the floor is light.

Since you are keeping the floor tile, I would
start with that first. Then choose the cabinet color
you like that goes with the floor and from there you
can find the right granite to go with both those.

Keep in mind the floor tile may have looked peachy at the
granite slab yard but in different light and around
other elements it might be the more beige you thought
prior.

Thank you for the very helpful pictures, and excellent thoughts.
Both of my possible door stains "go" with the floor, the cherry pecan or the maple chestnut, but my worry has been that the cherry brings out the pink too much. And of course, it's the cherry I have been wanting to use.
Like the looks of the Golden Dream a lot.
Does anyone else have Golden Dream, or similar granite pictures?
I haven't tried to post pictures on here, but will give it a shot.

I have a fairly large kitchen with white ceramic tile flooring and medium oak cabinets. I want to update the kitchen with granite counters and tile backsplash - what colors do you suggest that will tie in the white flooring?
