Help me pick a granite! Natural maple cabinets/dark floors

13 years agoI have natural maple cabinets that I loved when I chose them. It wasn't until I started looking at granite that I realized exactly how "peachy" they could look when all the appropriate granite samples had "peach" undertones.
I finally chose Costa Esmeralda which shows muted green/grey. I am soooo glad did, this offset my initial disappointment with the light natural maple.
I was also drawn to lighter granites for the cabs such as Giallo Ornamental and Kashmir White. My wall color is also an olivey green.
I am extremely pleased now with the cab's and granite - the choices suit my tiny kitchen and home.
I know this is a tuff and very expensive decision!!!(pardon the construction MESS)!

Dark maple hw floors and cabinets...help please :)
Comments (33)Thanks for the post, skmueller. So you are doing dark cabinets, but not as dark as the floor? I was thinking this might work in our case as well. Our flooring is verging on black, but there is dark brown tones in there and I thought we may be able to do our cabs that color. Do you have a picture that is similar to what you plan to do? I've been trying to find some good pictures showing a very dark wood floor with cabinets that are slightly lighter than the floor...not finding many. To go darker then our floor we'd basically have to do black, which is why we were thinking of doing white uppers. Personally, I'd like to do a very dark stain on all the cabs. Nothing against white paint, but it bothers me a bit that we'd be covering up the grain of the maple cabinets. Comments (25)In my previous house (3 years ago), we had natural maple cabinets and Bianco Sardo/Luna Pearl countertops. There was actually a lot of ivory in the counters, so it went well with the cabinets. The cabinet knobs were black and our appliances were white; tumbled white/grey marble backsplash. I really liked the color scheme, it felt bright, but earthy. I don't think the dark green granite/natural maple is "out", it's just a look that's been around longer than the new white kitchens. To me, what's "out" right now are pickled oak cabinets and Corian counters. Comments (6)Gosh, I hope others with the color eye respond to your email with suggestions. All I can say is I'm not crazy about Masada - and it's not necessarily that it is too dark (because I'm painting my kitchen BM Van Courtland Blue which is not a light color). Perhaps part of my problem is that the color looks like it would blend right in with your floor almost too much. It's really hard to tell with that size sample, though. I was told to paint a much larger swath of each color I am interested in so you can really see it. I would be interested to see a bit more on the wall, as well as a bit near the floor in order to give you a better opinion. And of course, it is just MY opinion. My KD, mother, sister and DH love the Van Courtland Blue (as do I), but my GC, my trainer and one other person think it might be slightly too dark. Different strokes for different folks. My grandmother LOVED the color mustard, but I'm not as keen on it. Therefore I would be interested to hear what others with more color expertise have to say, and of course I would ultimately go with your gut. What makes you happy when you walk in. Good luck. 13 years agoThey say you are supposed to have some contrast so go with a darker granite.. but i fell in love is Alaska aka Delicatus white.... so thats what i did.

5 years agoI hope someone sees this and lends some advice! We weren't expecting to have to stay in our house as we listed it but now we are staying. Long story:( So, the countertops MUST GO! I need help with an inexpensive but good looking solution. We are likely taking out the 6" backsplash behind the cooktop and the riser so that the countertop can come out just a tad but not so many cuts. Maybe make it another seating area. I've received quotes on Giallano Ornamental granite @$28-30/sqft which comes out to a LOT! lol! Looking at quartz but omg. I'm overwhelmed to say the least. Black appliances stay; sink needs replacing but thinking staying with stainless but undermount. Thanks for any advice! The cabinets are maple, floors are Acacia EVP by Lumber Liquidators. Painting cabinets could happen but our cabinet guy said he'd cry since they're maple. HELP! and Thanks!
