Help - dress me for my FL trip!

I know around here, San Francisco to Carmel, it depends on what event you are going to and where it is at as to how dressed up you get. But location plays a big part too. For example Santa Cruz is a lot more casual then SF for events and going out to dinner.

I don't know if that applies to FL too. We are taking my Mom out for her 90th birthday and it could be in Miami or Orlando or West Palm Beach or Vero Beach. I have no idea what type of clothes to pack for a "nice" restaurant down there.

Can any Florida women give me a clue? Here are some of my more dressy over blouses and jackets which I wear with a silk tank and dress pants. I like a jacket because I get cold in air conditioning. We are going out to dinner twice but I don't know where and a dance recital or play. What is the dress code there?

Gosh you have pretty choices there. Most places are fairly casual but it depends on the restaurant. Some, especially in the Miami/West Palm area may be pretty fancy but it looks like any of your tops would be glam either with pants or a skirt. I like the first one--the zebra-looking one and the third one is really nifty. If you can find out the name of the restaurant, that would help. Most things are pretty casual in Florida--rarely see a man in a suit and tie, even in more expensive restaurants.

That's a big distance between Miami and Orlando. Hope wherever you're going it's warmer than it was today because today I'd have to recommend earmuffs and mittens.

patti43 - Thanks for the information. My Mom lives in Vero Beach, but my sister takes her to places at those other cities. It will be in mid March so expect it to be maybe 80's? I will take the heavier beige linen jacket too just in case. I also am use to cooler N. CA weather where we wear short sleeves when it hits the 60's, so I am sure FL will seem warm to me. LOL

In the beginning, I thought this thread was about making use of what could be made into something good, and getting rid of the rest. I didn't understand that the focus was on using pieces of a landscape somewhere, somehow. It seems to me that many existing "pieces" of the puzzle, if used, will only guaranty an undesirable outcome. There are many smallish, highly ornamental, cute pairs of plants (bougainvillia, topiary, pompoms, etc.) that beg to be used to flank a passageway. But there are not that many passageways that need flanking. There are plants in bad positions that need to be moved, but they are too big to move without a great deal of trouble or expense. Though there are many pictures attached to the thread, they are isolated shots that don't link areas. It's hard to develop a fluid concept of the site. Truth is, trying to make sense of the existing puzzle pieces would be an unpleasant job if I could be there doing it on site. And that would be much easier than trying to do it by remote. I think it was mentioned that it would be a good idea to return some items. I understand the difficulty and unpleasantness with that, but honestly, I think that is the best suggestion. What this situation really needs is a good designer who can make a personal visit, and a willingness of the owner to find another way to dispose of all the things that don't fit or that can't be made to fit without too much sacrifice. I believe the owner does want a finished product that's actually nice. But there only so much a person can squeeze in before the objects begin to work against him. It doesn't need more "objects" as much as it needs continuity and linking. This is not an attempt to say "I'm out." I'm just saying that the project is frustrating and I wish I could help you more, Relleum, but other than offering piecemeal advice, don't know if I can.

I wish I had some seamstress skills! Yes, the area over the top of the window frame is 25.5" so from halfway in between to the floor I would need about 103". 95" would definitely be too short. 108" would work, but that would be 17" of white space over the frame, though...I would most likely have them open most of the time, so maybe it wouldn't matter. I'd like to get cellular shades in here, the kind that can be opened from the bottom or top. That seems like the best way to get privacy without blocking too much light, so the curtains would be more for dressing than to close for privacy. I suppose I could check into what it would cost to have someone hem them for me too. If I don't pick a heavy drape I might be able to do it with that iron-on tape. I've used that to make light table clothes. I live in a tiny rural town in Indiana so Walmart or online are my shopping choices generally, but I'm going into Indianapolis at the end of the month for an appointment so I might see what I can find then.

This navy dress at Nordstrom Rack is nice (and cheap). I live in Florida and would wear this on cooler days/evenings here December-January. This might also work up north for a wedding. It's lined. I like the neckline. Add a long necklace with pendant or dainty choker. Don't know your size. The smaller sizes are sold out. Starts at 10. roxsol The saddest part about that news article is he will get a stiffer sentence than someone who drinks and drives and kills someone. My son's 17 year old co-worker was killed by a drunk driver going on 10 years ago just west of Calgary. He got 2 years and was out in 6 months. Our justice system is a joke.

just go for anything light, and breathable (like cotton or blends) we were in ft meyer's in may for dd2's destination wedding about melted on the tiny beach she was married on. and it seems to rain at the drop of a hat so avoid anything that might be spoiled by getting wet.

of course i love all the bright colors, but like the black and pink combo...

Clare, I agree with the previous comments. Any of those over-blouses or jackets will be fine.

The great thing about Florida? There is no dress code. When we go to a play, concert or nice restaurant, there will be a huge range from the very dressy to the very casual.

Thanks everyone for your input. I guess I will pack one dressy and 2 casual. Gee, I wonder what my choice of clothes says about me. They were buried in the back of the closet so wasn't sure what I had. It was kind of interesting to see them all together.

My first choices would be the lime green top or the zebra top worn over a pair of nice black pants w/ a black shell. Put on some earrings and some cute sandals and you could go anywhere here.
Don't count on the promise of warm weather in March. The Natives know that the danger of chilly/cold weather isn't over until Easter.

Lovin' your wardrobe! As for the 'fancier places? That animal print jacket, with a silk tank top & dressy slacks in the taupe/tan color in the jacket, along with black strappy sandals & bold, gold jewelry-classy!!!
The secret in March is to 'layer' so you can take off what you don't need-pending the weather.Capris, a short sleeved or sleeveless top, a jacket or sweater & you're golden. Have fun!!

It will be in the 80's, my daughter just got back from Miami. You have some beautiful tops, I love the Colors . Take at least three. You can mix and match with bottoms. Have fun!

I prefer the Pink on the right and the Lime Green. I wouldn't wear animal print in March. Just me.

You do have a lovely wardrobe to choose from.

It's good that you are waiting till next month, although you'll want to bring a sweater. It gets cool and damp in the evenings. I've been wearing jeans boots and turtlenecks the last few days. It's been down in the 30's at night and high 60's during the day.
