Oops, sorry just reread post and you don't even have to change schools - so no problem with leaving friends and making new ones! The school friends will love to come visit. My Ds has a friend in town (not even in same school, but Scouts) and they're always asking *him* over, we can't wait to have a campout at our house but there's one at their house this w/e if it stops raining (Mem Day/bday party for this boy was rescheduled for this w/e b/c of rain - it's been raining for a solid month now)!. If this thread is still going in August I'll be sure to post pics of the "family reunion" (really just my dad's brothers and their kids who live in the area - I don't think those who have moved out of the area are coming back, my siblings are coming end of July). My cousin, her dad (middle brother) and I all have adjoining land, my uncle mows all his with a riding lawnmower (we have hayfields, my cousin just has the old farmhouse, barn and 5 acres). Just my uncles, cousins and spouses, and their kids in the area add up to about about 100 people (25 from one uncle, his kids/spouses and grandkids alone!) so we set up a few tents, 3 grills and sometimes a spit with a pig, a few kiddie pools, a slip-n-slide, and the kids get filthy in the pond/creek/swamp and the slip-N-slide, we hose them off, some go home but some stay around the bonfire til the wee hours - we try to do this every year so the 2nd cousins who live within 10 miles of each other but all go to different schools in different towns can see each other (besides Little League when they play against each other LOL). Oh, and I did manage to get a pic of the buck and doe together (can just see her hind end - no pun intended! - under the tree at the edge of the woods b/t him and the birch).

I would say you can ship them or carry them on, depending on their size. I order rare succulents online occasionally and live in PA where it is usually colder than their origin. Most of these come bare root. They may get a little wilted from lack of light but always bounce right back once I pot them and put them in the sun.

We are considering moving across the country over the next 6 months and I am worried about how to get my plants to our new home if we choose to fly. Does anyone have experience shipping plants? I am mostly worried about my baby Fiddle Leaf Fig.... :(

take some cuttings , wrap them in damp paper towels and put them in plastic bags, then in cardboard box. i'm sure u can fit that in a car WITH dogs :). you'll be able to root them, so you will have at least some continuance. the rest - am not sure. certainly not by post (mail). POD? possibly..if you pack them with paper for insulation and punch holes in the cardboard they should be able to take a week even in very hot conditions. just water them well a couple of days before you pack. put paper towels on top of soil around the stems - to keep the soil from spilling out and then I would wrap each pot in a grocery plastic bag, tying up around the stems if possible. even if it's not tight, the paper towels will prevent stuff form spilling out. how tall are the stems? do you have stakes of some sort? you could try wrapping the whole pot with brown craft paper like a cylinder to protect the long vines. if you have extra boxes, put each plant in it's own box. if the plants are tall: tape 2 boxes together (1 upside down) to create a taller box. stuff with scrunched paper and put a large plastic bag on top loosely. plants transpire in transit, so the paper will absorb the moisture. if the pots are small (up to 6"), it's much easier to pack them. how large are your plants and how many are we talking about?
