Bad news turned into good news!

We are going to Florida in a couple of weeks, so I was checking the Trader Joe's website to see if there was a store near Orlando. Alas, there isn't one in all of Florida, but there is one opening in Bellingham Wa. at the end of this week. That's a 30 minute drive for me!!! I am so excited, but don't have a single friend who would care. "Trader Who's?" Guess you all know where I will be going first chance I get.

Diana, the address on the Trader Joe's website is 2410 James Street. I believe that it may be in the older part of Bellingham, as opposed to the Bellis Fair area, but I will have to mapquest it to find out.

I'm not worried about the smell. All the freezing and thawing of winter seems to minimize odors, sort of like stuff disintegrates instead of rots. I covered them with lots of leaves. I agree with joepyeweed - throwing out spoiled food is a lot easier when it feeds the compost.

I know this is an old post, but I'm curious: are you sure the ants themselves are the ones causing the damage? Most Passifloras live in a mutually beneficient relationship with ants: the ants eat the nectar produced by the plant, and in turn remove the eggs of pests that would harm the plant. A quote from the link below: "Incidentally one of the signs of a happy plant is armies of ants marching up & down it. They are attracted by the nectar & have a protective role re disposing of other insects' eggs etc." There are a few ants that do cause harm by farming the pests themselves: they'll purposely plant the eggs of scales, mealy bugs, and other beasties on the plant, and then tend to them, so it is certainly possible that the ants could be introducing other pests to your plants. But I haven't heard of any ants themselves causing the damage that you're describing. (Which doesn't mean it's not possible, of course -- I'd just hate to see you work hard to rid your plants of ants, if the ants, in fact, would remove the other pests on their own if left alone.) Carol, Thanks. It was a very pretty wedding, but a very small one. They decided about 10 days ago to get married before she left for her National Guard basic training. I think she leaves next Monday. So, I think it was on Tuesday that they got the license, and then on Wednesday they made arrangements to get married at a small wedding chapel here in Marietta. That gave us Thursday through Monday a.m. to get ready for the wedding, which was scheduled for Monday afternoon. So, considering that time was short, we did really, really, really well. Best of all, since it was small and simple, it was pretty relaxed and joyful---no one was all stressed out over this or that. And, we are simply delighted by the two new additions to our family and love them dearly and already considered them family members long before the wedding. I ordered some seed from Johnny's for the fall garden, and some from Willhite, and picked up a couple of packets of Target's Burpee seed line which I was surprised to see still on display in the Denton store last week. (I can't walk past a seed rack without stopping to look which explains why I am growing 5 varieties of fall broccoli instead of 1.) It is hard to find seed here too any time other than spring, so I try to stock up then, but sometimes I forget to pick up stuff for fall. Or, even worse, I come home with seed in the spring but don't immediately put it into the seed storage box and then....when I need it in the fall, I can't find it. Of course, it always shows up in a drawer or something in the dead of winter. I use coffee cups to soak seeds, but always make sure to leave one cup for Tim so he can drink his coffee. It is so hot here that it seems insane to be planting a fall garden doesn't it, but eventually the weather does cool down. At least, I'm hoping it cools down soon. I am SO over the summer weather and ready for fall's more moderate temperatures. Our purple martins haven't been around their houses the last couple of days, so all the babies have grown up and flown the coop, so to speak. To me, that's one of the signs that summer is starting to wind down. Dawn

One thing, I'd hope you remember--medical science has advanced by leaps and bounds since your dd was a child. I know, even with a procedure my DH had about 5 years ago, and had to have repeated this year, there was vast improvement. I'd be willing to bet that the treatment today is better and hopefully more effective than what you were told many years ago. Wishing your daughter the best. As to your other news--Fantastic, the very best to you and your children.

Hmmmm Maybe we should plan a meet at TJ's in Bellingham..
I live about 1 hr 20..I was just at the Everett Mall Way one on Saturday..same distance to drive (miles wise) but doesn't take as long going North(so when B'ham opens I can make the TJ's trip much more often!). LOL The girl said soon..but the last time I heard anything from the Employees in TJ's it was supposed to open this Spring...They are a few months Late...LOL

Soon they'll put one in Burlington too..:o) something about need to have 100,000 people with in 10 miles of the store..

Yes, James is a little farther South than Bellisfair. Closer to Western WA College..

As an Orlando area resident I am upset about not having a Trader Joes. From what I see on this forum, I am really missing out. We're getting an Ikea soon, so I guess I count my blessings. Hope you enjoy your time in the "Sunshine" state. Awesome time to come because tourism is very slow and it isn't busy at all.

Hi Pam! Saw your picture the other day and it was funny, but you look a lot like I had pictured you. Don't remind me about the Milsean chocolate - I try very hard to stay away from it!
Terri - it could be fun to meet up in Bellingham - I love the "old part of town." We'll be away until the middle of October, but maybe we could manage before the snow flies.
Vacuumfreak - I'm glad to hear that Orlando isn't crowded, as this is to be mainly a Disneyworld trip, meeting up with inlaws from Ontario. With 7 kids and 5 adults, we are a crowd all by ourselves!

Thats for the directions guys !!! I will be going to Trader Joes soon, but I don't know when. I have always wanted to go to one. I have ordered a few things online from them, and everything has been good !!! Thanks Again !!! I hope that you are able to enjoy the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot. Have you been before? It will be going on while you are in town. It is amazing! Those 3 and 4 dollar serving samples sure add up! I haven't been since I worked for Disney, but I remember the Canada pavillion very well. The maple fudge and cheddar soup were heavenly!

Terri....I can meet you sometime, but not right now, as I am trying to save my money for Vegas !!! I live not too far from Bellingham, and I would love to meet someone from the Forum !!! I have a Aunt that lives in Bellingham, and an Aunt that lives in Birch Bay. I go down there quite a lot. We can make plans to meet, but it will have to be in the New year, if the slots in Vegas, don't take all my money!!! LOL Just e-mail me. After the new year is good for me...doesn't really matter..Just timing..I can leave after the boys are off to school, and have to be back before they get home..Gives me a few hours to doodle with. ;)
