I've been looking up cookie recipes. Somehow I always associated macaroons with coconut. I was very surprised when I saw recipes for macarons with no coconut. So I had to do a little research. So I googled macarons (macaroons). Sure enough, macarons actually means to crush or beat (as in almonds). It's usually a cookie that is made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, crushed almonds.
Macaroons can have the same meaning or the almonds are substituted with coc0nut.
Who knew? You learn something everyday. I hope someone else out there finds this interesting.
Anyway, if have a great recipe or story to share about macarons, please share!
