Canning is easier with help

Yes, it's that time of year. No matter how life interrupts plans, the tomatoes don't care:

They've got to be canned, and that's just the very first picking. Fortunately I have help:

The Princess turns scullery maid and helps to peel tomatoes:

We canned 14 pints of salsa:

And 10 quarts of "plain old tomatoes". The Princess and Bruvver worked up an appetite so I made pizza with fresh tomato slices, onions, green peppers. None of that nasty red sauce, but I did cave in and add pepperoni to most of it. I even ate a piece. One was more than sufficient.

fortunately, Elery and I had made some bean soup with beans from the garden, so I had a bowl of that while Amanda and the kids ate pizza:

There were brownie sundaes for dessert, butterfinger ice cream on warm brownies with hot fudge sauce. I had to hurry to get a picture, never interrupt a hungry kid eating brownie sundaes!

they definitely earned their swim in the pool, since it was nearly 90F. They waited on the concrete while I got the pool ready, then splashed on in.

Yes, canning is much more fun with help, although not necessarily easier!
