That is sad that it happened. People just don't understand that life is not forever.

That's sad, so sorry he passed away just when he was having a little fun. But I've lost so many friends I met at dialysis, I was just thinking of this woman named Joan who died about a week ago. My husband says it's the hospital's fault, "someone" should have warned him about excessive fluids. I myself am on fluid restriction 365 days a year. I drink no more than 40 ounces of liquids, including water, soda, milk, alcohol, jello, ice cream. , anything I swallow. I was even warned to eat small portions of rice and pasta because they contain lots of water.

Sad that he passed away. Sad that he didn't love himself enough to take care of himself.

Jannie -we had 7 deaths since Jan 1st,the state was in this week to investigate.They had everybody scrambling to get ready,evidently they are gonnago through our books because thats what nurses social worker were getting ready all day wednesday.We have 3 in the hospital,one is on life support,dont expect him back,we have an elderly man,he fell went down hill since,they put him in a bed beside me yesterday he looked sooo bad.A girl /I over heard the dr tell her she should quit dialysis 3 years ago he told her theres no more they can do for her, she wont quit 40 years old.

My Dh is on dialysis 3x's a week. Due to the dye from ct scans while in the hospital. Just found out it is for the rest of his life. He does not watch what he eats or drinks. I try my hardest to watch. But he just won't listen. His blood pressure is always low. No energy. He is still not allowed to drive, so a van picks him up at 6:15 am. ( I don't drive)
I have been trying find receipes to make for him. Heading to a book store this evening to look for a cookbook for dialysis. Any one have any suggestions? Sure would appreciate it.

His dialysis unit shouldd have lots of info on diet, ours does they also should have a nutritionalist who tells you what to eat drink,no colas soda,you can have rootbear,clear sodas,not too many once in awhile oranges and stone fruit,rinse mashed potatoes before mashing to rid of phosphourus,not too many potatoes,beans,chocholate,sweets,we're allowed 3 bottles water daily but that also includes soups other fluids total 3 bottles,Call in ask to talk to her shell tell you all you need,also salty foods chips ham etc not good salt holds fluid.His treatment would go easier with less on.

I agree with Bulldinkie, at my hospital dialysis unit the Nutritionist sees our weekly blood tests and tells us how to eat and drink. Examples(for me)- fluid restricted,avoid salt, avoid foods high in calcium, phosphorous, and potassium. Now that's hard when you also have osteopenia and are supposed to take calcium. It's a delicate balance. If I really crave someting, I'll have just a taste rather than a full portion. Like one small scoop of ice cream. Half a banana once a week.
