Closet Organizers - ?? on 'screw the top rail into the studs'
Comments (6)I finally understood what you mean. No, Elfa's top-rail-supported systems are wire or wire mesh with wooden shelves that serve as the wire drawer's support and as a dust cover. There are no all-wood drawer ones. I think they're just too heavy. You can look at the link below for wooden drawers. In some of their other photos it looks as if they MIGHT be rail hung, but I just doubt it. I guess the same principle as not hanging the kitchen cabinets all off a top rail. Good luck with your search, though. Here is a link that might be useful: wood drawers...See MoreCloset systems which hang - brand names?
Comments (7)Closet Factory is one of the stores in my area and they offer either design..........wall hung or floor support. Closet Factory did the closets in the house we now own and DS purchased ClosetMaid for their walk-in closet. I don't see much difference in qualiaty........just choices. Closet Factory tends to be more 'custom' but I believe they will sell their stock for self-install. ClosetMaid can be found at Lowes.........and I think HD is also carrying it now. If you do a search thru Yahoo Yellow pages for your area you'll probably find a few choices....See MoreCan you recommend a closet storage system?
Comments (35)Autumn, we investigated in advance of building the walls for our closet, so we knew that 4 of the large units would fit (since you're building, you could do the same). As far as the exact design, we did it at the store with an associate's help. We have 5 short hanging sections, one section with all shelves above a short hanging sections, two sets of 5 drawers each, and some extra shelves where we could fit them. We actually measured what we needed in advance, although I will say I forgot to account for the [very few] long hanging items I have (a few dresses, even though I hardly wear dresses). I'm not going to modify the closet, I'll just hang those elsewhere. One thing you should know is that there is one color that you have to order (we couldn't wait for it - called something like "whitewashed oak" or "driftwood" or "weathered" I can't remember). We just got birch. We paid to have someone else put them together, and the whole thing including delivery and assembly was less than $1500....See MoreWalk-in closet, narrow? Clothes on just one side? Comments (49)Hello everyone - I am an interior designer. I dislike long narrow “walk in” closets. Even if you have a designer create a beautiful, one sided narrow walk in - 2-3 feet of pathway is not enough. This will create a space that is not useable by people of all abilities, and wastes an entire wall. I believe a true walk in needs to have a 4-5 foot pathway. If you don’t have that much space, create a beautiful reach in closet. The options for reach in closets are endless. Keep in mind that a beautiful, well planned reach in closet will be an bigger selling point than a narrow walk in. I am very opinionated about good design, and my passion is promoting, creating and educating my clients about Universal Design....See Morequiltglo
