Cross post - Paperwork storage
Comments (12)>I've actually noticed an extending of the timeframe of available statements online, from the past, which was kind of a short time period, imo. For personal accounts, yes, but as someone with a small business, when my big bank got consolidated into a bigger one, the amount of stuff I could get online went way, way down. I can't access anything older than 90 days online now. I have a fancy expanding file folder for the current year and everything goes into that by month. At the end of the year they don't take up all that much space and it's amazing what all you can get into one. Just be sure it has a good quality band to keep it together. Scanning is too time consuming for me. I find it easier when reconciling to sort through paper, and I know that if I get audited the IRS is mostly kind of backwards thinking, too. If you don't have a huge number of receipts, Homegoods often has very attractive monthly expanding files....See MoreAnnual Paperwork storage
Comments (2)One thing I do is keep only a year's worth of any paper statement I want to keep in the filing unit (I use something that looks like a milk crate but is made of metal, and you can stack a few and buy the rolling base if wanted; I had a 2-drawer metal filing cabinet once, but I like being able to roll the metal crate thingie over to where I'm sitting and work from there). If I think I need to keep older ones, they go in a cardboard filing box in the back of the closet. Also, I checked a few online sites to see what financial organizers (like Suze Orman) say about how long you should keep certain things, and I dumped a lot of old records that really I hadn't needed to look at for years anyway, like utility bills, some credit card statements for since-closed accounts, etc. And I was keeping a lot of sales receipts for items over a certain amount of money. I scanned them and put them on my own computer (and I backed it up with a portable hard drive). Many of those receipts were starting to fade, anyway. Scanning more of your documents could be a good move for you, too....See MoreReusing Old Kitchen Cabinets in Basement- Need Ideas!
Comments (3)We took some old cabinets out of our cabin and used them in my studio, I painted them with a dark blue, and copper paint, using a rag roll method, We put them along one wall, and I now have storage for my supplies. If you have a space that is open, start there, even drawing how you might want to use them. If its in the laudry room, or even for stuff that you keep in storage most of the time. We also got some old cabinets from my work and put them along the long wall in the garage, uppers and lowers, they now serve as a storage for kids sports equipment, car stuff, and animal treats. Along with my own paint sprayers, and chemicals...See MoreGreat DIY Idea for That Age-Old Throw Pillow Storage Problem!
Comments (24)Yes, I agree that it might look odd during the day if it was sitting empty. The idea that it could hold folded throws then is a good one. I said we had a chest at the foot of ours. I should have said a trunk with a flat top. We keep our throw pillows on that at night, and it works fine. I just saw this cute idea and thought it might be a pretty and inexpensive solution for some people. Actually, if I didn't need the trunk's storage, I'd replace it with a totally padded bench, as DH walks into it at least once a month!...See MoreLuAnn_in_PA
