TGIF for 9-28-07

is anyone clinking with anything at all or have we all forgotten this is the end of the work week for most folks???

now i know i had a full-out whine just a couple days ago and will try not to do that again, even though i would feel absolutely justified in doing so again! some weeks just don't go well at all...but katie, some of those unfinished projects that you alluded to have been started in OUR household and i know i have some glassware to match yours. so if you want to fill your glass and compare stories, i'm more than ready! and lpink--talk about being unhandy! i just know in my heart of hearts we could make you feel like a ruddy genius. you have no idea of the relatively simple things we've screwed up over time. be that as it may, if you wanna compare stories, pour a glass of wine or whatever, and i'll tell you about the biggest argument we ever had in 31 YEARS!!! such a simple little thing and so stupid--just pathetic...in any case, we are happy and well and that is the most anyone could wish for, isn't it? we have projects underway and will either press on with them this weekend or not--depends on how how adventurous we're feeling :) so what is everyone else up to? surely some of you are alive and well and feel like sharing!

TGIF!! Clink! Clink! We are 95% of the way through moving our office. Unfortunately, monday is October 1st, which means I will be in the office, moving the rest of our stuff sometime this weekend. I'm happy to be home and having a glass of wine. I do plan on playing with butternut squashes and making some more tomato basil sauce to can.

I'm alive but not felling well today. I think I have the flu!!! So you know what that means? A large pot of "Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup",is on the stove as we speak. It has been a long week, so maybe I'm just tired. Who know's, but like you said San," some weeks are just like that". I at least got my Fall Swap shopping done today!!! That feels good!!! I hope you have a good weekend, and have a glass of wine for me !!! I just might make a Hot Toddie(Rum) later, and clink to you all!!! Diana55

Yeah! 36 for zone 7 at least that is my zone on Garden Webs info. I'm so glad I saved many of my jugs from last year. I can sow much faster without having to cut and make holes. Yeah!

Well, it's not SO cold here, about 18F, a high of 12F for tomorrow and Sunday, lows below zero. Snow today, tomorrow, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, LOL, welcome to Michigan! Good thing I love it. (grin) Woodie, I might bake some oatmeal cookies myself and take some to Dad. Yes, I take leftovers to Amanda and to Dad, LOL. Stacie, hug that new baby for me. At least your brother can call you! Pixiestix, you're colder than we are. Better bake something. Work on your next contest, or something.... Nancy, put on those sweats. Mine are Carhartts, nice and warm. Fashionable for Michigan too, LOL. Lori, I'll cheer for the Patriots, just for you. So, how much stuff do you have to cook to feed all those boys? Michael, you need a break, you're starting to sound a bit strained. Take care of yourself, will you? Diane, robins? Maybe they can wear some of those old sweaters. (grin) Pam, let's not talk about Christmas decorations, OK? I finally got the lights off the front porch and just realized this morning that I still have a Santa doormat in front of the door. Sigh. I'll be finding stuff until Easter. Maggie, better you than me on those blinds. I completely lack the decorator gene, I just paint everything white! Stacy, that's a good idea, check out camping cabins and think about summer. I love seeing those eagles, we have a pair that nest near the farm but they're elusive. Gina, Florida has better beaches? So I don't need to bring a swimsuit when I come to California? chase, I hope you only get snowed in with people you'd like to be snowed in with! Lee, you're right. Gina needs to post a foot shot... Linda, pile on the wood, it's going to be cold for a while. A bridal shower? You're getting married again? LOL I'm intending to use tomorrow as a cooking day. I want to make some meatballs for Amanda's freezer. (ground beef out of my freezer and into hers, and voila!! I might have some freezer space again) Orange marmalade is on the agenda too, peaches are 99 cents a pound at the grocery store, if they taste good, maybe some sugar free peach syrup for Dad's pancakes. Sunday is the farm and it'll be cold, so nothing will have been done. I'll need to bundle up to fill tanks and hay feeders, feed chickens, fill bird feeders. Monday I'm off work, it's one of those "government holidays". Amanda has Old Navy gift cards and there are 75% off sales right now, so I'm taking her shopping, then hitting Marshall's for dish shopping (like I need any) and then Chuck E. Cheese for lunch. Tuesday I'm still off work. Dad's having surgery on his "good leg", they're going to try to open up some veins to improve his circulation. He's got some diabetic ulcers that won't heal and he's having problems with the artificial knee in that leg. Sigh. He has to be in Grand Rapids at 5:30 a.m. and wants me to drive him, so I have to be at his house at 4 a.m. elery is taking a vacation day from work to come along and keep me company (and keep my sister and stepmom from driving me insane, LOL). So, clink to everyone here, and think some good thoughts for Dad, if you will be so kind. Annie

I don't know where the summer went either, but we've had a wonderfully pleasant July, and I've been spending a lot of time outside after work, just relaxing and not getting much done. It's a little too peaceful and pleasant in my back yard now, and so I just sit and watch the hummingbirds and other birds that visit. One I think is an oriole of sorts - it has a red chest, and it sits and poses on top of my wall fountain before getting a drink. It never does this when I have a camera, however. Your outdoor water activities all sound fun, but I won't be doing anything like that until next month. I think I would prefer a beer garden to parade myself, and so I hope you will enjoy it! Sharon, I smoked a turkey breast last week-end, and it turned out great - I'm sure your whole turkey will too. I basted mine a lot and used Cajun seasoning and mesquite wood for the smoke. What kind of wood do you use in Ontario? Good luck with your fence and bull, Annie! That's something my father and brother always had to do, but now they have my nephew to help them. My main activity this week-end will be finishing the drapes for my bedroom window. I started them two weeks ago and let them sit in the sewing room for the past week while I sat outside in the yard after work chillin' out. Last week-end we shopped for our trip, but we're all fitted out now, I think. I just need to get some memory for the dive mask camera I just got. The camera is attached to the mask, and it will take two hours of video without having to change batteries. It takes still pictures too. I'm hoping Don will bring some rain to my parents in Texas this week-end. Lars

TGIF for sure!! I've been on the road all week and I'm glad to be home FINALLY!! Stacie, hot as heck here too...but I LOVE summer so the heat doesn't bother me at all. I'll take it over winter and cold temps.....yuck. Linda, I know for sure you will have a great time with the girls....I still remember when I finally figured out your forum name. Katie, congrats to beating the big "C" pal! I'm still shocked at how you pulled that off at camp last year. I still love you stemless glass tip! Pat, I missed the culinary school thing. Too cool! I'd love to read your blog or at least follow up here on the forum. What a trooper you are with all you've been through the last couple of years. Lindac, I'm thinking you will be there reguardless....I know you love those Grandkids of yours. Stay cool whatever you decide. Nancy, have a great time with your company....sixties would be okay but I'm loving 87 at ten....perfect for skinny dippin'! Gina, you sure are a busy lady. I wouldn't think you need lessons with all of the ping pong playing you've been doing. I hope the new paddle does ya good! Andi, Linda's pickles are WORTH the nine day effort for sure!! I love them...and they are CRUNCHY after all of those boiling soaks. Jo, 58 sounds like it's close to winter to me...LOL! San, glad to hear you had a great time at the cottage. I see you have been up to some other fun too...I'm REALLY jelous over that one. Hot here too, triple digit temps are forcasted through next week here. I've been on the road all week and glad to be home....so is Lucy. I'm headed back to the city tomorrow to take in a little of the PGA...Tiger ended the day very good today. I'll be doing some more canning tomorrow evening...that a general chores sum up my weekend so far.....ya never know who may show up at the lake. Have a GREAT weekend everyone!!! David

Well I'm clinking and wishing everyone good health and energy.....Diane here's hoping it's not really the flu....but take care and enjoy the Hot Toddie, then go to bed!

After getting a clean bill of health from my visits to the clinic and another visit to the cardiologist....(good strong heart he says)...the doc reminded me to have a glass of red wine every day. I said that was one health rule that I was keeping to very well.
Today is Burger Day and of course I will clink and accompany mine with a glass....or two......of Spanish red wine!

Happy weekend everyone and here's hoping your burgers turn out successfully!

Today is still a holiday for us, the weeklong holiday of Succoth. Its really a harvest festival full of themes of renewal and hospitality. We were lucky to be invited to our friends' Succah last night and it really felt like Thanksgiving Outdoors, Turkey and all that...Plenty of giving of thanks and inviting in honored guests - real and virtual (historic/biblical stars). Clinking of glasses, yummy deserts and good converation - and pleasant weather to boot! Today we are the first stop on a shul succah tour so we will provide the blessings for wine and bread (Kiddush and HaMotzi). So L'Chaim all and enjoy the weekend. - M

moving offices AND canning, boo? i admire your energy! and diana--i hope the soup or even the toddie have you feeling better today! if not, i'd start today with another toddie and repeat until you are feeling better or simply don't care :)

i'm sure the flamenco lessons didn't hurt you a bit sharon, but i'm happy to note that you feel the wine helped too! i really love cava but i suppose there's still room for a bit of spanish red... and i think "m" is making great use of her time and hospitality and glad the weather is cooperating! i hope everyone has family and friends to share their weekend with and a clink of the coffee cup to all!

Diane, I had the flu for the first time in my life last fall and I thought I was going to die. I don't think I've ever been that sick except when I had food poisoning. YUCK!! Hope you feel better soon.

This week has been fun. We are finally to the point where the construction is slowing down to a crawl and my phone no longer rings every 10 minutes and I only have 1-2 sub contractors here on a daily basis! YEA!!!!! And my carpenter has started on the decorative posts and railing for our wrap-around porch and my goodness does the house look different!!

With so few interruptions I now have time to organize my home. First I tackled my pantry and organized all my flours which took a good 3 hours but it felt so good!!! Everything from the bulk store is now in clean, shiny glass jars and all are labeled. Thank goodness for my P-touch!!!!

I spent all day on Tuesday in my kitchen and loved it. I baked and cooked all day.

And I even had time to do some hand sewing Monday and Wednesday nights...WOW, have not had time for this in almost 2 yrs now. And I leisurely glanced through some magazines too.

Thursday I began my fall barn cleaning. I give the big barn a good cleaning twice a year, spring and fall, but last year just did not have time to hose everything down. The new little barn will have to wait as it is still packed with our furniture. Oh well, it's new, just built in Fall of '05 so not too many cob webs yet...LOL!!

Friday, I took off for some shopping and came home with a wonderful very red baking dish. DH said "like we need a new baking dish" but actually I've been looking for a smaller deep dish baking dish and this one is perfect and did I say it's red!! :))
