that's one way to look at it. It sounds worse the way you describe it... He/we borrowed money to pay off credit cards... which consolidated everything to one lower payment a month so then he figured he could afford a motorcycle payment. After I said we can't afford it, he got together with his parents & they discussed how it would save money on gas and all the pluses... he could get to work & home faster. Then his parents made me feel like a heel for wanting to deprive their son of having his own motorcycle... after all, he works so hard. His brother has one & soon after DH got his, FIL bought one... they said to go riding together, which hasn't happened yet. He justifies it because he works 40+ hours at his job, works at our business on his days off & in the evening, maintains the 6 acres during Spring & Summer. He does work hard, but I disagreed, his parents butted in (with his invitation of course) so when they complain he hasn't made his payment (on the debt consolidation), I ignore it or tell them how much he loves riding his bike... when it's not raining or cold. He doesn't miss the motorcycle payment though. No, it doesn't escape me that he is willing to buy what he wants & tell his daughter we can't afford it when she WANTS something. He does pay for the health insurance but I pay all the co-pays and other things because he puts his entire check toward the bills, including paying his parents back for the debt consolidation loan... and it was mostly HIS pre-me debt. He did sell his truck because it was only driven a few times a year & we wanted to get rid of that payment when the economy tanked. If she needs something, he will make sure she gets it. But, he'll take it out of our bill paying account & then tell me he needs me to cover some of the bills that he usually covers. It still comes out of my pocket... but it is really OUR pocket. I buy those things because it was what I did as a mother for my own kids... he thinks some of it is unnecessary ~ the extra's like school pictures, yearbooks & fundraisers, not the health care. He also doesn't like shopping & doesn't have patience... he used to go into the store knowing her current size & buy a few cheap outfits at a department store... sometimes the SAME outfit in different colors. That was when she was 5-6. She's now 11 & he would do the same.. he took her shopping for school clothes & dragged me along. It was a nightmare for me because he is so impatient & they argued over what she could get. (wanting low rise skinny jeans) plus she was upset that nothing fit her. Then he about had a heart attack at the register... until I told him that the last time I took her shopping, it was at least twice that much. AS for the update on MIL: We went to dinner at the restaurant last night & left baby at home with my DD. MIL sat furthest away from her parents (across from me) & SD between us at the end of the table. She interrogated... er, conversed with SD about life at our house & life at her mother's house.... anything to avoid her own parents, who seemed miserable. Then, MIL had planned us to come to her house tomorrow evening but I had plans so she moved it up to tonight. DH went straight from work. I took SD & my DS stayed at my house with the baby. By the time I got there, they actually had tried to cancel the whole thing... DH was upset that I didn't bring the baby because THEY WANT TO SEE THE BABY! So, I asked him WHO is making such a big deal about the baby being there? HIS MOM of course. I told him that first of all, the baby is not really related to anyone... he's a step-great great grandson at best. I doubt they really want to spend the night fawning over him as much as MIL wanted to see if I let SD play with him at HER house. Secondly, he wants the attention of the room. When people are talking, he tries to get in on it & gets noisy. I asked hi do we really want the evening to be about DGS or DH's grandparents & Aunt? So, since SD is having trouble in school (all F's & D's), I had her bring her homework. She took it out & MIL spent the entire time (along with MIL's sister) helping SD with her homework... focusing the entire evening on SD. I think that's the way it should be... SD is their granddaughter & SHE is the one that needs attention & help, not DGS ~ who would have demanded the attention & SD would have been ignored. MIL hardly said two words to me.. trying to remain pleasant for show but she was probably pissed at me. Oh well, I told DH that after what MIL did at the luau & the way she has been on me about SD playing with the baby, I am not putting the baby in the middle of that mess. He was sleeping at home anyways.

"so what's different now?" It was buried somewhere in one of my initial posts but what's different now is tubal blockage. I have diagnosed infertility that, unfortunately, is not stress-related. It's funny b/c it's only my right tube that's blocked, and the consensus has been that I had damage to it from a laparoscopy I had in 2001, 4 wks before I got pg with DD. NOW--I am not saying that some of this isn't a blessing in disguise. We consciously made a decision to take a break from fertility treatments from April-Aug. for all of the reasons above---it was just not good timing. But stress aside---it's not why I am NOT getting pregnant. With my tubal issues, IVF is going to probably be our only shot at conception. I don't buy the whole stress thing, either, b/c plenty of people get pregnant when they *shouldn't.* Look at BM. Three kids between the two of them already, BM has a drinking problem, they have NO MONEY, and still---she's pregnant with number 4. SIGH. I appreciate the sentiment behind what you said, Sylvia, though.

I think she would have to be holding the little ones until they are weaned at least because she nurses them.With that many kids in the house why wouldn't they be helping to take care of the younger ones? I had only 4 kids and the older ones helped me!That is something I see in all large families.Sorry but I just don't see much about this family that is "disturbing".They lead very busy lives and "making an appointment" to talk to your parents seems like a good idea to me.Most families now days don't even have the time to MAKE the appointment!LOL "I'm sorry. I didn't realize this was the Duggar's-can-do-np-wrong, pro child labor, pro cult blog." I don't think it is! They dress the same because they buy their clothes at thrift stores,nothing wrong with that,and because it is easier to identify the kids in a crowd.I use to dress my 4 alike,made most of their clothes so I guess that makes me some kind of strange person? LOL As for the same hair styles,maybe the girls all like long hair and the boys like the clean cut look?? Or maybe the girls/women identify with the scripture that pertains to a womans hair being her "glory".whatever the reason,it's their business! I totally agree with Ruthie.It is refreshing not to hear all the profanity that comes out of most teenagers mouths now days or to see the scanty dress on girls and the sloppy attire that the boys all wear now.Just last night we were shopping in Wal-mart and followed 6 teen age boys for several minutes.You would not believe the stuff coming out of their mouths.then when we were loading our groceries in the car 4 of these same boys were beating one of the others,had him on the ground hitting and kicking him,sll 4 at the same time.they took off running,right past us,hopped in a pickup and took off.the one being beaten and the one with im jumped in another car and left.I don't know how badly the one was hurt,but we think it was a boy that was in the store with them who was mentally handicapped.He had downs.It all happened so fast and they were gone before we could even call for help.Anyway,it is refreshing to know that there are still some families like the Duggers that don't conform to the rest of the world! That's all I have to say about this subject!

I'm not sure how Lillie meant her post...but I took it that she was taking a stab at the people that are always talking crap about the Duggers THINK they're uneducated. Less face it..everyone has an opinion on these people and 9 times out of 10 it's a negative opinion!

I agree, Bump. I read lilliepad's remark as being very positive and complimentary, and playing down what some people feel about the Duggars. Hard to express some things in the written word.

I too agree with CB and Sue. I think Lilliepad was giving a ribbing to the peeps who are always putting the Duggars down.

I think there's always room for sarcasm, my favorite form of humor.... ;)

I'm glad they were able to help. The 6 year old was in the front seat and wasn't strapped in? Those parents were terribly careless with their precious child. I'm not sure they should moved her on their own, but it was pretty cold here that day, that might have factored into it.

I think Lilliepad was being humorous with her comment. There are many people that consider the Duggars uneducated. And she did put quotes around the word, so that is how I took it...humorous.

It is a wonderful thing these boys did.

Lilliepad's comment was very clear to me. She put quotes around the word, indicating to me that she was quoting what some people believe. Regardless of what I or anyone thinks of the Duggars, I hope that nobody looks for anything negative to say about what those young men did.

What a great thing for these young men to do but I exspect nothing less of them. The values they have been taught will be with them always. Would buy a car off Josh in A HEARTBEAT...saNDY

It was mean't just as almost everyone took it.Sorry if anyone was offended but I think it is offensive to put people down just because they don't fit into the "normal" family mold.I am also offended that there are so many people who think kids who are home schooled are somehow inferior to kids that go to public school.I have a grandson that is home schooled and he is very smart and well adjusted.Anyway,I'm sorry for causing such a stir over something that was mean't to be positive.

It's OK Lillie! I don't think you owe anyone an apology! YOU shouldn't feel bad! YOU didn't cause a "stir"! Some people have nothing better to do than put down people they don't know and probably never will know (The Duggers).And, there are people that just love to "correct" others and when the truth comes out..they're no where around!

I've been around home-schooled kids and schooled kids! Hands down..I'd rather be around the HOME schooled kids!!

Ditto CB! My grandson(and not just because he's mine)is more mature and all around better "adjusted" than any of his friends that go to public school.He wants to go to public school next year,(hopefully he will change his mind before then)and is being tested for grade placement.So far he has tested way ahead of his grade level in almost all subjects and I would consider him just an "average" kid.I realize that a lot depends on what kids are taught at home(morals,manners,etc.) but there is just so much going on in public schools that it scares me.

But mimi - you misread lillipad's view. That's Ok and can be understandable when reading printed words. But I don't know what that has to do with opinions and everyone being entitled to their own. I think an "oops, sorry lillipad, I misunderstood what you wrote" post would be nice.

An amazing story of rescue! Thanks for sharing. The one Duggar boy learned CPR by being a fire volunteer.

This was a very lucky turn of events for the little girl who apparently had a chicken McNugget lodged in her throat. I am appalled that the girl was not wearing a seat belt. I wonder if the driver will be charged? I don't know the seat belt laws in other states but where I am this could mean jail time.

LOL. I read it that way at first too. At first I thought there was some DNA testing done and a scandal or story of hospital mishap came out in the news. The first reaction I had was 'poor Anna' this won't bode well. Then I thought "Oh, this is just going to be one of those *jokes*." And I almost did not click it on.

There is not much letter space to put in long titles here like on other boards. Sometimes the brevity makes for confusing titles.
