Favorite new companion plants- let's see yours
Comments (44)Clematis look really nice with roses. I'm new to clematis, and after doing a little research on them, I ended up buying this clematis called,'Snow Queen. I'm really glad that I bought this variety. One of the buds opened up two days later since I bought it at a nursery. For some reasons, the flowers of clematis reminded me of how my mother used to make embroidery patterns for table clothes, and hankerchieves for me and my brother. The flower shape/texture has this 'warmth' feeling to it when I looked at it this morning. Now my interests are roses And clematis. I'm intending to add more clematis. For those who haven't tried growing clematis - I suggest you should give it a try. BTW... my opinion on osteospermum being a good companion plant has changed. Those African Daisies are Thrip magnet, and the foliage has this pungent smell and would not be a good idea to plant close to those light pastel color roses. I didn't get rid of the plants because they seem to be doing very well. Instead I had to spray them with pyrethrin, and cut off all the flowers in the hope those thrips would go away....See MoreI'm half way through my organizing/decluttering list
Comments (7)I made my list by making each item into a simple task. I could easily have written bathrooms as one task but that turned into 4 items: each bathrooms drawers and each one's under the sink. But my house needs decluttering more than organizing this year. That's why this is working for me now. Last year, however, when I did my organizing for the first time in many years, my list had items such as computer stuff, stationery, maps, my personal papers, etc. I first picked an area for each item to be in. Then I went around the house and garage and searched out the item from the list that I was working on. I could never get into prioritizing. I just sat down one day and made a list of all the places (or items) that needed attention. Then I numbered them. I just pick at random an item from the list and do it. In my mind, I know which jobs are larger than others and pick one depending on what else I have to do that particular day. I find that giving myself, for example, 2 hours to finish a job puts pressure on me. Sometimes that 2 hours turns into 1 hour and other times, it can be 4. Then I put a check mark next to it once it's done. In my mind they're all important so one doesn't need to be the first. Well, that's not quite true. In the past, I've had company coming for supper and I made sure my pantry and fridge were presentable. Sometimes, I end up doing items I'd forgotten to put on my list. Then I just add them to the bottom of the list after they're done and check it off. No matter which list I've made, it never took much longer than 10 or 20 minutes to do the list and it all fit on one piece of paper....See More100 foods to try before you die?? Comments (43)I've eaten horse, during the PBB scandal when all the cattle were poisoned and dropping over from PBBs in the cattle feed. LindaC, I bought Pocky at my local Meijer's and sent it to dishesdone, they had a chocolate and a strawberry version. Ashley says she's gotten it at WalMart right next to the college, it's a cookie shaped long and thin, not as big around as a pencil and dipped in chocolate or strawberry fudge. I have eaten crocodile AND alligator, and black pudding which Grandma used to call blood sausage. Nettle tea tastes icky and "green" but is supposed to be a diuretic and make your hair shiny, I can't figure out what the heck those two things have to do with each other, but I've tasted it because it's also supposed to be helpful for anemia. I didn't see that it helped. I had chicken tiki masala at a restaurant in Ann Arbor with Elery. It was basically a chicken dish with a curry kind of sauce over rice. Eh. I'm not a huge fan of curry. Paneer? Elery likes cheese. A lot. So we tried this, it kind of reminded me of the homemade yogurt cheese I make by putting yogurt in a strainer and letting it drain for several hours. Criollo chocolate is just a variety of cocoa bean. It's expensive and I found it to be very mild, I wasn't all that impressed with THAT either. I think I bought it at Fresh Market, and everything there is expensive so maybe that's just why it cost more. Tom Yum is just soup. I think it had coconut milk in it and it kind of reminded me of Chinese hot and sour. Annie...See MoreLet's list the strangest things we have been saving !i
Comments (8)I usually just lurk in this forum. I just love to see what you all are organizing. I was lucky enough to be born with the extra organization gene and I donÂt mean that in a good way. I really think itÂs a curse but I have always been this way just as my mother was. My sister on the other hand couldnÂt organize a drawer if you paid her. Anyways this made me laugh. Just a few weeks ago I was cleaning out the linen closet and decided the time had finally come to get rid of the Raggedy Ann and Andy and towels. I packed then up and sent them to my daughter with her birthday gift. If I remember correctly I bought them when her father and I bought our first house. It was just before her first birthday. She just turned 46! Boy do I wish they still made towels like that. They still looked brand new and they were used by DD for several years and used again when DGS was little. I also have the scrap book from the 50Âs and early 60Âs plus the album of wedding pictures from my first husband, her father, and I havenÂt been married to him for almost 40 years. I could give them to her now but when my GS was little he didnÂt want to hear anything about my DH not being his grandpa. He is almost 23 and I think he could handle it now....See Morelivingthedream
