Let's list the strangest things we have been saving !i

I was thinking today of some things that are in my garage that we are either saving or haven't gotten rid of yet.

One thing that my DH had my son put in the rafters of the garage are the wheels and lower frame from a long gone portable dishwasher.

Another thing we came across was a large box that we thought was a mirror or a photograph...turns out to be a table leaf...we do not have the table! Yet we still are holding onto the leaf.

How about you...what strange things do you have?

From my aunt's collection of everything she ever owned, a set of large, elaborate, colorful dinner menus from a Caribbean cruise in the early sixties.
A box full of New Yorker cartoons that I have been cutting out since the seventies. I have this idea about making wallpaper for the half bath downstairs....please do not have your copyright lawyers call me...!
A blue and gray felt beanie that my mother had to wear in 1933 as a freshman at the little boarding school we both went to.

A Mickey Mouse hat from 1980 that one of my kids wore home from DisneyWorld

a scrapbook that I kept in high school (from the late 60's - in it is a wrapped piece of Spearmint gum that my boyfriend (at the time) gave me. I have his name and date on it! LOL

I'm so sorry everyone. I received so many great emails and was in the middle of arranging trades then the most bizarre thing happened. My daughter and I got a call from the producer of the Tyra Banks show. This was on a Tuesday night. They called all night long, all day Wednesday and by Wed. Night had told us they wanted to do a show segment on us and our weight loss, and by Thursday, this little southern gal was in New York City ! We filmed on That Friday and came home late this past Saturday. So I hope you will all still want to trade, I'm going through all those emails now.

Misty is definitely not keen on her 'treads'! That picture was the funniest and may eventually end up in a frame. When we first put the booties on, we put them on her first and then put our winter coats on. I went to close the closet door and it didn't close properly. When I looked down to see what the problem was, this is what I saw: The kitchen is usually NOT neat :-) In the original house, where the kitchen table is now was the dining portion of an L shaped living room/dining room. There was a window where you can see the doorway on the right side behind the chair and the main kitchen window looking into the backyard started above where you can see the dishwasher by the stove. The addition we put on runs behind that side, so the window to the right of the table became the doorway to the pantry and the window above the dishwasher and sink is an opening looking into the living room. The original living room became the dining room after we put up the wall - and doorway to the dining room - on the left side of the table. That left a long, narrow kitchen that would have had no windows! So the window you see there now had to be knocked through the outer wall as part of the renovation. That gave it a nice wide windowsill that is perfect for plants! There are counters and cabinets on both sides of the kitchen, with the counters on the left side being short - 30" tall - and the ones on the right 36" tall. The shorter counter makes it easy for me to sit to work at the counter if need be. There are sinks on both sides too - as well as one in the pantry. And there is a fridge in both the kitchen and the pantry. The pantry has a long counter on one side with no base cabinets to make it really easy to use that surface as a work space - that's where I did all the drawing work for the course I took last winter. When I planned the kitchen, my intent was to make it as efficient and usable as possible for as long as possible given the many unknowns about where my health issues will go. So far it's worked quite well. We did think, when we moved in, 'At last, lots of storage space in the kitchen' but we could still use more space....:-) One of the odd things in the kitchen is that the floor is uneven just about where the picture starts. The old stairs to the basement went down under the cabinets at the entrance to the kitchen. The new stairs go down outside the kitchen and, when the old stairway was filled in with new joists, it became very obvious that the original house had sunk on one side because the joists would not meet on the level! So there's a funny dip in the kitchen floor...

Hi, I'm new here, too but this struck me kind of funny. I started thinking about the time years ago that I took apart an ugly brass chandelier and used part of it as a candle holder. I spray painted it with that textured metallic paint in a dark bronze color and it sat on the fireplace in my bedroom. Then just a few weeks ago my son had to do a project at school. He chose to do a trophy for the Iditarod dog sled race. We used a wood plaque on the bottom, a block of wood, the t2t candle holder/old lamp part thing, a small Spongebob play ball (I know, crazy, huh?) and a plastic german shepherd on top, then spray painted the whole thing gold! Remarkable how a German Shepherd can turn into a Siberian Husky when it's gold (except for the curly tail)...HA! We...I mean HE...got an A+ on the trophy, I'd call that a treasure 2 treasure. LOL!

I have records, what do I do with them? Haven't played them in at least 20 years but still have them.

A box full of leather bags that electronic equipment came in. We don't have the equipment anymore but I can't seem to get rid of the bags. Some of them are from large video cameras while others are just floppy-type bags.

A small wooden box that holds broken knick-knacks.

A mug collection that was started many years ago of places I visited. Then people were giving me them from places they visited. It's in the storage room in a tall, large box. I can't bring myself to get rid of it. I thought of putting my favorites up on the fireplace mantle but the cat seems to climb up there if there's anything sitting on it.

Recently, I did get rid of 8 rolls of calculator tape that I purchased on sale many years ago. The only calculator that I own that feeds paper never worked properly when I tried to put the paper in.

I agree, old record albums. I have albums from the 60's I no longer play. Also have my two daughters' baby teeth saved in two little boxes.

I also have loads of 45s and 78 records. (But, I also have a "record player" to play them!! LOL)

I usually just lurk in this forum. I just love to see what you all are organizing. I was lucky enough to be born with the extra organization gene and I donÂt mean that in a good way. I really think itÂs a curse but I have always been this way just as my mother was. My sister on the other hand couldnÂt organize a drawer if you paid her.

Anyways this made me laugh. Just a few weeks ago I was cleaning out the linen closet and decided the time had finally come to get rid of the Raggedy Ann and Andy and towels. I packed then up and sent them to my daughter with her birthday gift. If I remember correctly I bought them when her father and I bought our first house. It was just before her first birthday. She just turned 46! Boy do I wish they still made towels like that. They still looked brand new and they were used by DD for several years and used again when DGS was little.

I also have the scrap book from the 50Âs and early 60Âs plus the album of wedding pictures from my first husband, her father, and I havenÂt been married to him for almost 40 years. I could give them to her now but when my GS was little he didnÂt want to hear anything about my DH not being his grandpa. He is almost 23 and I think he could handle it now.
