My preference would be stainless steel, white, and then black. I think the black would definitely be too much of a contrast. Getting SS would certainly make it look really up-to-date, IMHO.

(but take into consideration...I just put in a white kitchen with SS appliances two years ago...so I'm a bit biased!)

If your cabs were a brighter white, I would say go for white. Being cream, though, I'd say stainless.

I don't know what your budget is, but I'd try to get one that isn't as deep. Cost may play a role, however.

Stainless, for the reason that parma42 mentioned. White appliances will likely look "off" with cream cabs.

I vote for Stainless or white. A counter depth fridge would be a good choice, too.

I'm the opposition. Black. I have creamy cabs & walls and I used black appliances and it looks so much better than I thought it would. We had ivory before, and it just was so washed out. And SS would look too contemporary with the country feel.

The black isn't really that stark, it picks up the hardware in your kitchen and breaks up the lightness so you don't feel you're sucked into a white vortex. Plus your kitchen seems to get a lot of light, so you could pull off the black.

I would prefer stainless, but would be choosy when buying. I found out that most stainless frig's had black sides, which you can see a sliver of when you put them in place. I opted for an LG which was titanium which doesn't show fingerprints and had a silver side. Looks so much better, IMO. Good luck, great kitchen.

I would go stainless.

I think white would blend too much with the cabinets, and black would stick out too much. Stainless would be a good happy medium. Plus stainless is almost sure to blend in if you ever change/paint your cabinets or change your countertops/flooring.

White. I have cream cabs, but have color in the backsplash and the white looks great. Not a fan of ss or black. To me the question really is, do you want to notice your appliances or something else in your kitchen? Both ss and black are going to draw the eye, white will allow the viewer to look at something else in color or texture.

White or stainless not black. Keep in mind that some stainless appliances are only stainless on the front so that may be something to think about with the frig especially.I have SS with cream colored cabs. Still have the biscuit colored frig though until it dies.

Another vote for SS which will really enhance your look. White would be second, if you "want" an all-white kitchen, though I haven't seen too many that really look great. Skip black; it's too dark for what you have going on. Besides, it shows dust and dirt more than any of the others, IMO, and I've had all three.

White. Powermuffin makes a good point. Do you want attention drawn to your appliances or to the kitchen as a whole? Your kitchen is already warm, adding SS or black would seem cold to me & make them stand out. I like ss in big and dark kitchens...with cherry wood.

About cabinet depth appliances, we just bought a fridge that's cabinet depth. Oh how I miss my regular fridge! You just don't get the larger depth to it like the old models. :(

I was leaning towards the SS but held off due to the price - like to call myself frugal (my husband would say cheap LOL)> but I will deffinately start looking around for one as I do love the look and I think it may add some 'shine' to the room.

Stainless. You don't have to go top of the line to have a nice look....do your homework, check Consumer Reports, and then watch for sales.

We once got an upright freezer for half price because it had one small dent in the side (the side that faced the wall). ;)

i wanted to share what I did for appliances....everytime I was in Lowes I went down their clearance aisle....found my counter depth frige(had dent on side & not seen) for 1/2 price & negotiated even more off - took awhile but I had a back up fridge until I found the deal. Regularly went to appliance showrooms & looked for floor models on sale - found DW, oven & gas cook top this way. I didn't mind if they weren't *perfect* b/c in my house after a week they were going to have some wear!! I looked at it like buying a used car - let someone else take the intial depreciation.

Since you have appliances that work, you can take your time & hunt down the deals!!

I think stainless would look best in your kitchen.

I just bought stainless. A bit of a pain in the neck, keeping it looking awesome. How about the faux stainless? Fingerprint resistant, I am told. I hated black fridges....until I saw the Jenn Air floating glass. I'd by that fridge in a heart beat. Black could work as you have some black in your countertop, right?

I have to vote for ss too. i think if you put white appliances in against your cream cabinets it will make your cabinets look even more off white. I agree with the others who said to get a counter depth fridge.

Black, your kitchen needs grounding and also there appears to be a hint of black in your countertops which will look so great. I think your kitchen is very charming and stainless steel might take that charming look to a more sleek look.

SS with black accents.

We have off-white cabinets and changed our white appliances to stainless recently. Absolutely love the look. Get many compliments on it.

I think that in this day and age, don't bother upgrading unless you get stainless. That's what most people want and it really adds value...I say SS 10000000% I think it will look great!
