Kathleen, no rules at all. I guess you could even have a BLT on a bun and it would qualify. And if someone says it's a burger who is going to argue?

I copied the burger photos from around the net so I'm not sure what was up with middle burger but it is big! But I think it was from one of the "Make a Better Burger" contests.

How about September 29, 2007 for the Burger Cook-off. It's the last weekend in Sept and we still have Oct for a before-the-holidays Virtual Dinner (Harvest Moon) if anyone is interested.

And don't forget that you can have your cook-off on a different day, just post the pics on either the 29th or the 30th.

Nancy, Joe is condiment king so he's going to want to try out some new sauces. I found several interesting recipes for condiments like Mango sauce so I thought maybe we could post some recipes to share.

We'll just do one post then for Burger Cook-off Recipes or techiques.

You don't have to post a recipe if you don't want to, just if you think others would like to try something new.

Jessy, I had not thought of Turkey Burgers. I've never made them and should have years ago. I think we will do both Sat and Sun burger dinners.

I do want to make some sauces for Joe to try. I have a feeling he is going to be quartering his burgers as he is using my Peach Salsa on just about everything now!

I can start a new thread for recipes. We have 3 wks to plan. Should I wait a bit to put up a Burger Recipe Thread or do you want to start posting recipes now? Either way is fine with me.

i'll be very interested in watching the thread as i've never been really happy with a burger i've made. some have been better than others but i have yet to make one in which a relatively plain patty has been as tasty as they are in many restaurants. i'm sure it will be a fun read!

Oooh, it's chile roasting time here. I'll get freshly roasted Hatch or Colorado chiles the morning of the cook-off and make burgers with roasted chiles and Mexican cheese. And since I'm recently home from Paney Camp, I'll even make the buns.

Sea, Of course the Cook-off is international. You don't have to post pictures to participate but you could send the picture to me or just about any other forum member and we can post it for you.

Otherwise posting pictures is easy. Go to Photobucket.com or flickr.com or any number of other photo storage sites and sign up for an account. Then follow the directions to upload the photo. Then copy the Michelle

I almost didn't open this thread since I don't do meat, but since alternative burgers are in, I'll give it a go. Maybe Bobby and I can have a tofu burger cook-off! If I can make something like that taste good, I'll be a winner for sure! :-) (Not that it's a contest or anything.)

Actually, I'm looking at this as inspiration to learn to make my own burgers rather than buying those expensive pre-made veggie burgers, which not only are expensive, but don't taste very good, either. I'll be doing mine on the 30th, though, since I'll be working on the 29th.

I'm a little skittish about committing to the time, but I'd like to be in. This is great timing to learn new burgers. I don't have any good burger recipes to start with. The only good burger I've made was regular old beef burger with cheddar - cooked on my new grill.

My daughter who is a ridiculously picky eater, just said yesterday that it's too bad she doesn't like cheeseburgers like all her friends - bc. it's so hard for us to find food she'll eat (other than pasta with butter, and pizza - she's even sick of macaroni and cheese - and peanut butter). I thought that if I could develop some stuffed burger - or some variation she would like, that we'd all have a better time when we have company for grilling.

Riverrat - I noticed you got a new grill. What kind? Having a new grill that cooks evenly has definitely helped.

I'm off to check out the recipe thread.

Lynn, I got this grill just before Maggie's birthday. I've been researching for about 6 months. I have several grills but I wanted to pair down a bit and give the kids the other grills. We really only need one grill but I like to do a lot of different kind of cooking, hence, 3 grills and an Old Smokey. I love this new grill! I can smoke, fry, steam, grill...yada yada. I just realized this was going to be something on a definite date.....a virtual burger dinner so count me in as a participant. Wolf won't touch hamburgers or anything else wrapped up in bread or a bun.....so I'll have to be tricky inventing mine and call it something other than a burger and perhaps his will be open-faced LOL! And of course mine will be a "hamburguesa con todo".

I may have to do ours on Friday 28th as Saturday is already booked for something else.
