Butternut Squash questions

Since I am all by myself now, I am always trying to find ways to cook healthy. I love all kinds of soups, so I like to find ways of adding other vegetables--sort of like sneaking them in to fool your kids, you know. I love fresh spinach but don't like it cooked (it is too slick for me). Anyway I steam it in the microwave, then add chunks of it in my soups (that sort of thing). I want to know how to fix butternut squash so that I may freeze it in ice cube trays and then add some to my soup. So--how can I fix it in the microwave, freeze it and incorporate it in the soup? Also, kale, collards and stuff like that. I suppose I could incorporate those into maybe pasta. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Barb
