I think you are overthinking this; the small part of the bathroom that will be visible through the open door as you walk down the hall will be tiny and not jarring. I think it's the overall flow of larger, open rooms that is important and you seem to have nailed it down well.

will the toile be used as the shower curtain and that's what you see from the hall?
keeping the door closed is also an option, lol..........

thanks mitch, the fabric will be used for the window and shower curtains. I do hope I'm overreacting. Now that I've "slept on it" I'm a little less stressed. I know many times people will make their guest bath/powder room completely different from the rest of the house because they say if you want to "go crazy" with color, do it in the bathroom. Not that I've gone crazy, just a little off. lOL

Glad you're feeling better this morning. I don't think it's a huge mistake either. Especially at 50%. I am part of the "wild bathroom/powder room" school of thought, though. ;-) At least pale blue and tan do play together nicely. Thank heavens you didn't fall for a pink and green toile!

Is there a way to pull a bit of the Yorkshire Tan into the hallway? Maybe a color in the hall runner? An objet on a table? Or something as simple as mats on artwork? I think that when you make connections, even small ones, it organizes the brain around the juxtaposition of colors.

You did not mention the color of the toile you chose. Is it black and cream?

I think the Yorkshire Tan will work. Could you bring a similar color to tan into other rooms, whether it be in a pillow pattern or drape pattern. I feel once you actually start decorating, you'll figure out how to tie it all in.

Brutuses - boy am I feeling your pain!!! I am agonizing over this too because I do not want to have to repaint and I keep questioning my choices for the EXACT same reason you are! My colors don't seem to flow from room to room as well as yours does. I think your blue/silver pallette sounds gorgeous! I do think tan will go with your scheme - at least I hope so bc that is what I am doing for my MBR. Yours seems more cohesive than mine --- ahhh, I can just seem myself chickening out and going with beige all over!!

Here's the toile.

I think I'm figuring out what I've done wrong and why I'm feeling uncomfortable at this stage in chosing colors.

Some of you will remember, the first room I started decorating in my mind months ago was my guest bath. I wanted it to have the old New Orleans feel as the house is old style Acadian. I also started decorating the master bath. The fixtures are very glitz/brushed silver and crystal.

Being inexperienced in decorating entire houses at one time was overwhelming, to say the least. I know I have good taste (at least that's what people tell me) LOL My problem is I love different styles and want certain rooms to "feel" a certain way. Hope I'm making sense and you are not nodding off. HA!

For those of you following my saga, you'll remember I began investigating silver blue for my master as I had a picture in my head from a show I saw on TV years ago. So this is where I think things went wrong. I wanted 2 different feels for the master BR and bath and the guest bath. I chose to follow the silver blue paint to complete the rest of the rooms (with the exception of the hall/guest bath). Then when I came to the last color, this hall bath, I make this realization that my house is going to be old New Orleans in the guest bath, french country/traditonal in the great room, kind of glitz traditonal in the master (I wanted to decorate around the silver blue with glass and silver with black and another color in the accents.)

Oh Lord I know I've lost you now, I'll stop rambling. Anyway, I think I see that my problem is; I decorate my rooms around how I want them to make me feel and that means different styles for different rooms.

When I first bought the house I jokingly said to my SIL I think I'll decorate each room differently to satisfy all my likes. I never realized I'd unconciously end up doing it. LOL

To give you a better idea of where my scattered decorating brain is, the guest BR is Silver Sage with 5ft. white wainscoting and I picture it being a shabby chic. The office directly across the hall is Silver Marlin and really can't name what "style" I want it. Altough I'm leaning toward the same style as the master bedroom.

So if you can make sense of my ranting, please tell me I'm OK and my house will be also!!

Here's a clincher, we haven't made our decision on the foyer color yet either. We will be papering the top portion of the wall and picture molding wainscoting the bottom, but haven't decided on a color. Again, I wanted this room to have a old New Orleans, yet modern feel. In my head I'm picturing some tan or gold/tan. Hhhmmm, I wonder if doing this will tie the bathroom in with the rest of the house. Good golly miss molly, who let me loose to decorate an entire house. LOL I wish I drank, I'd get drunk just about now.

Sounds like a good case of acute eclectic. Get yourself in meditation mode and repeat this mantra "this will work, this will work." Soundsto me that it will be an elegant collection.

Honey, it all sounds lovely. Step back, take a deep breath, and remind yourself that you've done a spectacular job so far in putting this house together--from design to build. There is NO WAY your paint color scheme is a "huge" mistake--you've thought long and hard about it--trust yourself. Besides, it's only paint: if it turns out that you really don't like the way the bathroom color flows with the other colors--but I think it will look great--you can change it. A "huge mistake" would be forgetting to design a front door on the house. :)

Front door, what front door? Just kidding. Thanks for your support OS. Thank God the DH took care of the front door choice/design, etc. He was in charge of all things that were outside or could be seen from the outside and I'm in charge off all things inside. Well, with the exception of the decorative lighting outside. Left up to him we'd have those trouble lights. HA! HA!

hoya, do you want to share your color choices with us? Have you actually painted yet?

I think the 50% tan will be OK since it's coming off of a cream hallway. If it were against silver sage, it might be contrasting.

Sounds like you're figuring it out, though.

hoya, I just realized you are the one with the dining/living room color dilema, but you have those gorgeouse drapes that I love!!
