Finally getting started pic heavy

I've been lurking now for a few months and have used a lot of what we have gleaned to help shape our plans.

Late next week demo starts and we are going to open up our view from the kitchen out into the dining room by removing a bunch of the wall that is to the right of our galley kitchen. We have lived with this for 10 years and we finally got up the guts to do something about it.

We are going with Greenfield Semi custom cabs, Sand color in the Kitchen and Sage for the sideboard or credenza in the Dining room. Brownie or Boreal Granite for the Kitchen counter tops, and White Carrera Marble for the sideboard.

Most of the appliances will make the move since they have recently been upgraded and we already started with the Fridge since we got a great deal on a 42" built in to replace our old SZ which you can see has been torn out. The floor plan presents some challenges but we think we have come up with a design that we will be happy with.

The Ash floor will be refinished.

We think opening up the view to the water and flipping the cooktop to the other side and moving the sink to the right side of the U will make it much more workable. There will be a breakfast bar where the wall is being removed between the Kitchen and DR.

Before

You can see here the ceiling line that will be the top of the opening between the DR and Kitchen on the right those cabs will be replaced with the Sage ones and topped with Marble.

Cook top will be to the right of the Wall Oven

The U the way it is now it will be open on the right with a breakfast bar all the way back to the tall uppers

New Fridge already installed and you can see the top of the area that will be cut out to the left of the fridge.

How nice that you were able to use so many of the seeds and plants and statuary from your mother's garden for her memorial bed. I also like that you added the canna, one of her wishes. Do you use all those herbs in your cooking? Some of the ones I grow are just for their aroma. I loved my 2nd year ws Verbascum violette. Am deadheading for more flowers. Had many 2nd year columbines blooming and all were lovely but no Orgami though Songbird looks similiar.

Thank you....that's it, FULL MOON!!! Well, I'll be looking for a source to get one for next winter. Not the right time to get it now. I only have THREE, could always use a little more beautiful shade, and a good view from every window of the house.

Alycia, you sure put in a lot of effort to get your garden to come together so nicely. Beautiful layout and lovely plants as well. Be sure to take a picture of your NOID's blooms this summer. It will put the final touch to the ID. Then be sure to ADD THE NAME TAGS. :) NOIDs add a touch of mystery to the garden, but you never know what to expect from them. Glad you have a good option for the ID.

I'd definitely agree about glass giving your space a more modern direction. I'm thinking black glass would also be very 'hard' visually -- another surface with a 'strong, masculine' bent. Is that something you want? What direction DO you want to go in? (If it were me, I'd tip just a bit back to the 'softer and more feminine side' with a ceramic tile with a bit of a 'cushion' shape (handmade) and a color that's rich but not too dark. I'm thinking a simple 4x4 on a diagonal layout with a frame treatment over the range... While I love the metal decos, I think they may add too much 'clutter' to an element that needs to be more 'background'. You've also got a lot of outlets in your splash -- so there will already be things there -- things you probably don't want to draw the eye to...

I love your plans. And believe it or not I still like
your before kitchen, but I know the end results of your
reno are going to be even prettier. I could not agree more
the view of your new kitchen will be gorgeous.

This is the outside view from the dining room thru the Sun Room and the reason why we want to open up the view from the Kitchen.

Demo starts in earnest next wednesday.

I'm with cindaintx - I could skip the kitchen altogether!
It's going to be awesome when finished!

Funny, I just commented on another thread about corner cabs, and said I'd never seen diagonal bottom cabinets before and then here it is! I think changing those out to 90 degree on the bottom will make a huge difference.

End of day one update.

Someone asked about the paint in the DR, I know it's Benjamin Moore but I have to ask DW which one.

What a cool project! What a great view.

I have to ask this, though. I see two humungous beams over each wall opening. But is that only a pair of 2 x 4s holding each one up? :-o
