All day smell

Summer for us is all about cooking outside, cold foods, and faster, preferably 1-dish meals but now that the temp has cooled off to bearable levels again, it's back to using the oven and cooking things like roast that simmer for hours - and make the house smell so good all day!

It's been months since I did something so wonderfully odorous! Very simple - a slab of beef roast which I browned, then covered in balsamic vinegar and water with potatoes, carrots, an ear of corn, mushrooms, half of a small purple cabbage, a big sweet onion, couple bay leaves, some spices, a little hot sauce.

What do you like to smell all day?

Roasted a turkey yesterday. Dinner with all the fixin's. House smelled just like the holidays.

Well certainly not the dirty oven with the burned on cheese that I would smell in one oven if I turned it on.
All day smells?? About the only thing I can really think of that I cook all day that smells wonderful is chicken broth. that pot of slowly simmering chicken junk and onions and celery, garlic herbs etc etc is wonderful!....not so much cabbage borscht!

I put them in water, because the seller germinating instructions said to keep in water for 24 hours, but I kept them for like 2 weeks changing water every day as i could not get to saw them quickly as i had no spare pots nor soil mix sand i did not want them to dry out again, but then 3 days no water change cause i forgot to change water and they now smell badly, not sure whether 1 or all 25 have this smell. I sprayed fungicide on them (is that ok to do or should i use bleach instead?), but they still smell. Do you think the (some of the) seed might still be good for germinating/sowing? Can I attempt to saw such stinky seed? I would saw them one seed per pot not to spread if any contamination occurs. How do I check for viability of the (smelling) seeds (Cedrus Libani)? I mix a good mix of perlite, sand, wood chips bark (tiny) and two kinds of soil and mix well all that and saw all my seeds in it in separate pots for my own garden.

If you have bad odor, you likely have anaerobic activity somewhere. Are you aerating the nutrient solution?

I have a Bosch 800 series with Crystal Dry, same odor problem others are experiencing. This dishwasher replaced a 30+ year old Whirlpool that never smelled, ever. I rinse dishes first because I run the dw once every 6 days or so. Did a thorough cleaning of the filter, below the filter, the walls etc. Used Cascade dw cleaner this weekend, which did a super job of cleaning, but as far as the odor issue, it's back, now with an overlay of the strongly perfumed Cascade cleaner, which makes it worse because when I open the dw door to air it out, my kitchen smells like the dw cleaner, which I don't really care for. As far as the residual water, Bosch CS told me that it was an intentional part of the design, to prime the pump for the next use? However, I'm wondering if it's the crystals causing the issue, by absorbing odors and then releasing them after several days into the dishwasher? Thoughts? Very frustrated, because dishwashers are nothing new - the first one was invented in 1850 according to the internet. Would much rather have one that just cleans the dishes, than one with all the bells and whistles that smells.

That makes a lot of sense. I replaced the Bosch after 2 weeks (the odor was one of the reasons) and everything had been done correctly. And I tried all the fixes the Bosch help line told me. Got a Kitchenaid in its place and not once has that happened. I got so tired of folks saying that I must be doing something wrong. Nice to be validated like this. I don't understand why others don't have the same odor. But maybe they just don't notice it like I did.

Just pulled a Blackberry crsip (with cinnamon in the topping) out of the oven. Mmmmmm.
Not an all day thing, but a nice start to the morning!

Homemade bread!

Today I made Mulligatawny soup for dinner and that smelled wonderful while it was cooking, although I don't know if I'd want to smell it all day.

Saturday I baked 3 challahs. Still smelled good on Sunday.

Anything apple. (You can set the peelings aside & simmer them stovetop after the pie or cobbler is done to extend the good smells.)

Yesterday was cleaning day, but I started out by making apple walnut muffins. Then, later I made veggie stock and started a pot of beans. When that was nearly done, I got some cornbread in the oven. So, there was a mix of smells from apples to cleaning products to onions and garlic and beans, and cornbread. In the end, I was able to drown out the cleanser smells with good food aromas.

Oh, Sally! I'm exhausted reading your post. When I was younger I could multitask like that.

I miss those days.

Tonight here feels like fall and I let my oven do the work for our dinner with a small boneless pork loin roast (Penzey's Bavarian seasoning rub) and butternut squash from the garden. Applesauce from a jar and green beans from the green giant lol.

It smells like the harvest season in my kitchen, though.
