I emailed Bosch because I couldn't get through on the phone. Always on hold for an hour or more and eventually had to give up. In regard to your inquiry, we are sorry to hear about the trouble with your dishwasher. We can send you a lower rack wheel replacement kit, which includes wider wheels that have been redesigned to improve the stability of the lower rack. Please provide your address and an order will be created to send you the wheels, which should resolve the issue you are experiencing with the lower rack falling off the track. last night, for the first time tried the "half load" option (with Auto) and decided to use a some Cascade advanced gel since have container of that left and i'm into the whole experimenting thing :) it seems that "normal" according to the manual hits a lower peak temperature than Auto can... nothing terribly dirty (not pots and pans this time, but some dried on steak fat, but it cleaned well and in shorter time than usual (maybe 1:40). i may be using this half load option more often as i think that fits our usage patterns better. i'm still very nervous about leaving dishes in the DW more than the "day of" due to a long time ago experience of ants in the dishwasher... but...what struck me was the fact that as opposed to our old GE, the house did not smell of Cascade during the DW running. i'm not opposed to that smell like many, but i liked the fact that it didn't permeate the whole house. pretty cool and suggests that the Bosch is better sealed than the GE? @kashmi: thanks for the offer. i'm not sure what tests to suggest, but i'll let you know. i do have the suspicion that one dirty item and a lot of other clean items would really be hard for the "auto sensor" to figure out, if my guess of how it works is correct (checking water clarity down the drain). in reality, i don't think i would/should be doing too many pots and pans in the dishwasher...it just isn't a good use of space. aside: i'm also recognizing the benefits of the many foldable tines in our old GE and the top level Bosch 800plus 9ER. i wish the racks in our 7ER had more foldable options, but there was no way i was going to pay an extra $700 for those options. wondering aloud: how durable are these tines anyway? i'm wondering if i should be extra cautious (i have been so far) about them getting bent by pots and pans or heavy itens resting on them (ie, when they aren't/can't be folded down)

I have a Bosch 800 series with Crystal Dry, same odor problem others are experiencing. This dishwasher replaced a 30+ year old Whirlpool that never smelled, ever. I rinse dishes first because I run the dw once every 6 days or so. Did a thorough cleaning of the filter, below the filter, the walls etc. Used Cascade dw cleaner this weekend, which did a super job of cleaning, but as far as the odor issue, it's back, now with an overlay of the strongly perfumed Cascade cleaner, which makes it worse because when I open the dw door to air it out, my kitchen smells like the dw cleaner, which I don't really care for. As far as the residual water, Bosch CS told me that it was an intentional part of the design, to prime the pump for the next use? However, I'm wondering if it's the crystals causing the issue, by absorbing odors and then releasing them after several days into the dishwasher? Thoughts? Very frustrated, because dishwashers are nothing new - the first one was invented in 1850 according to the internet. Would much rather have one that just cleans the dishes, than one with all the bells and whistles that smells.

I have a lower cost Bosch DW (white, tall tub, external controls) about a year old. It replaced a terrible Amana that sounded like a jet engine when it ran. I got really tired of not being able to hear the TV in the next room! The pros: pretty quiet, seems to clean well. Dries okay. Love how simple the controls are. Really like the stainless interior. Doesn't seem to need a food disposal after all (I was skeptical). Cons: SMELLS BAD. I rinse my dishes really well anyway before loading but there's something about the interior (maybe the stainless steel?) that traps odors big time. It smells like something is dead in there and I'll have to run a load that's not even full just to eliminate the stink (the "rinse" cycle doesn't help all that much). I've never had that happen in any dishwasher before. It happens fairly consistently in this Bosch. Now I rinse everything about 4 times before putting it in b/c I'm paranoid! I have check the food grate thing at the bottom of the DW all the time, but that's never been the source of the smell... FWIW, I went to a neighbor's house yesterday to see her kitchen and she has the stainless version of my Bosch DW. She doesn't like hers because she says it smells AFTER the clean cycle has run (never happened to me) and that the dishes don't dry at all so they have to crack the door for awhile before unloading. That hasn't happened to me either. One more con - a design flaw. Bosch made the grate openings on the bottom rack so large that you can't put smaller items (like cups or small bowls) on the bottom. Too bad - because you can put plastic anywhere since there's no heating element. Poor design, IMO. I deal with a lot of small cups and sippy cups with three small kids so that has been annoying for me. Overall, it works as it should and even though I have gripes, I'm not replacing it in the new kitchen since it's so new...
