Question about Aloe Vera

I grew up in the Pacific and my mom used to tell me how good Aloe Vera was but I never paid attention to her. Not until I got married I remembered what she said and decided to get a plant for ourselves. We bought a baby one a few years ago and put it in front of our bay window. It's pretty big now, about 2 feet tall. I have used it to treat cuts and burns a few times but never know what else I could use it for.

I have done some research on the subject and realized Aloe is very good for the digesting system etc. But my question is, how can one make the best of an Aloe plant at home. I know it tastes very bitter; touched my mouth with my hands after handling raw Aloe juice :p I just wonder if there's any small ways to include a bit of Aloe in our diet? Is it possible to take away the bitterness so it will be more palatable?
