Sickley sweet odor in used dressers I bought
Comments (8)In the olden days women liked to use sachets and scented drawer liners. It was popular to store scented soap in drawers to delicately scent lingerie. Or tuck a perfumed scarf in the drawer with sweaters. Mothballs were used too. The sunlight and fresh air trick will help. I've heard that storing crumpled newspapers in the drawer for a while pull out the scent. Charcoal works best....See Moredryer sheets or?
Comments (12)I'm assuming the drawers of which you speak refer to a cabinet rather than bloomers! Seems to me rather than trying to cover up the smell, wouldn't it be better to eliminate the odor? Otherwise you'll have flowery smelling stench. Kind of like someone who never bathes who covers with perfume. Baking soda, vinegar and charcoal are excellent odor eliminators, even vanilla works but is quite expensive. Wash them with vinegar, even bleach if there's mold. Put them in the sun and air them out and let the sun help remove the odor. The sun (and fresh air) can be very effective at removing odors. I'd even put the whole cabinet out and air it. Pull out the drawers and keep the sun shining on it. Another thing that's effective is put it in a room, or bag it with an ionizer for a while. You could wash it with a baking soda solution, or make a paste. I think I'd put some baking soda in there and mist it with vinegar. Let it foam up and wipe it all over. Let it work into the wood. Vinegar and baking soda both are effective odor eliminators, cheap, and usually in the pantry. And it foams up quite nicely. And if you're afraid of smelling like a salad afterward, don't. When vinegar dries the smell dissipates rapidly. I'm not a fan of perfumy smells so I don't like using the soaps and stuff unless I have to....See MoreAntique CL Bookcase in DD's room - LOVE it!
Comments (20)When I redid my DD's room I tried to get all pieces with the Duncan Phyfe style pulls; but when I painted the pieces I discovered much of the hardware was really cheap (not brass). Once I painted I figured I was drifting away from the concept of keeping it in the original condition and decided to go one step further and sprayed all the hardware with Rustoleum to keep it all cohesive. I used a hammered nickel finish, but for your purposes, if you want to stick with ORB, then I should just spray the knobs on the dresser with ORB--so different style, same finish between the two pieces. As you are going with a vintage/collected look I don't think it has to all be matchy-matchy as long as there is some cohesiveness between them it will be OK....See MoreI Couldn't Help Myself!!!
Comments (20)arkkkk, it's a messy story; in a nutshell, I became inspector Clouseau because I sensed the employee was overstepping boundaries, a hunch I had. He was using MY computer on MY time in MY store to use certain internet sites. NOT decorating sites, lol........ Sorry about the highjacking, the toile paper liner is very nice; I recently used some to remove stale scents in suitcases, I left a few sheets in the suitcases and zipped them up, it did the trick....See Moretalley_sue_nyc
