Neither. This is what I do for my underwear drawers etc. I use an old handtowel or an old clean rag will do. I use my favorite liquid fabric softener and pour half fabric softener and half water. (if that is too much "smell" for you, you can even dilute it more) I dry it in the dryer (with some clothes while I am at it) and line my drawers with the dried fs/H2O handtowel. If you have any dryer sheets that have lost their smell... dip them in the fabric softener diluted mixture.. just wring out, let dry, and reuse or use in drawers..quality, strong papertowels will do the trick also. When I dry clothes I use 1/4 fabric softener and 3/4 water, put in plastic container. I use an old wash cloth that I have sewed yellow thread around to idenitify my "softener cloth" and reuse over and over before I dip it again. My daughter who comes home to wash her clothes will dip every load as she likes a strong smell of fabric softener.

I've always loved scented drawer paper, but these days it is super expensive; and the rose scented paper I bought online for my armoire smelled great - for several weeks. Now, I can hardly detect any scent. Pretty though.

I use scented bars of soap. The little guest soaps work well just tucked into a corner. My Mom used to do that years ago and I do it when I can't find the scented drawer liners.

Honestly, I don't have liquid fabric softener in my house either. Haven't used it in years. I just hang my laundry, and that's it. Oh, no, I do use a shot of vinegar in the second rinse cycle.

I just can't get the musty smell out of these drawers, no matter what I use to wipe them out with.

since you have vinegar you can use a spray of vinegar and water to clean the inside of the drawers with it will help neutralize odor and also kill any mold that may be in there.

then since you have dryer sheets use that or a bar of soap.

etc.) some mild scent you like. And sprinkle just
a little in each drawer. Not so much that everything
smells strongly -- just a little to test. Or the bars

Put bars of soap in your drawers. They can be fancy scented soaps or good old fashioned bath bars. Leave them for a year or two, and when you don't notice the smell as much replace them. You will find that the bars of soap that had been in your dresser have hardened over the two years, and so they do not melt away as quickly when you use them in the shower. So it is also economical to use bar soaps as sachets.

I have used charcoal briquets, wrapped in paper towels, with great success. A glass with baking soda will work, too.

I'm assuming the drawers of which you speak refer to a cabinet rather than bloomers!

Seems to me rather than trying to cover up the smell, wouldn't it be better to eliminate the odor? Otherwise you'll have flowery smelling stench. Kind of like someone who never bathes who covers with perfume.

Baking soda, vinegar and charcoal are excellent odor eliminators, even vanilla works but is quite expensive. Wash them with vinegar, even bleach if there's mold. Put them in the sun and air them out and let the sun help remove the odor. The sun (and fresh air) can be very effective at removing odors. I'd even put the whole cabinet out and air it. Pull out the drawers and keep the sun shining on it.

Another thing that's effective is put it in a room, or bag it with an ionizer for a while.

You could wash it with a baking soda solution, or make a paste. I think I'd put some baking soda in there and mist it with vinegar. Let it foam up and wipe it all over. Let it work into the wood. Vinegar and baking soda both are effective odor eliminators, cheap, and usually in the pantry. And it foams up quite nicely. And if you're afraid of smelling like a salad afterward, don't. When vinegar dries the smell dissipates rapidly.

I'm not a fan of perfumy smells so I don't like using the soaps and stuff unless I have to.
