A local Safeway store is closing.......

I don't normally shop there, but their ad said they had pork chops (whole loin), for $.99/lb. Couldn't resist...

Turns out they didn't have the chops due to closing, but found this deal!!!

The original retail price/lb. is a BIG part of why I don't shop there.........but WHAT A DEAL!!!

I ended up with $81.00 (original price) of meat for $10.00!!

So.....................ya'll wanna come over for sandwiches??

Huh?

I froze it in serving sized portions since it was so close to the Expiry date. Figure we'll just thaw enough for that day.

I just love a bargain!!

WOah! Now thats some deals!

What's with the "sell by" date? I'm only used to seeing "best by" which is the date it must be cooked not sold.

Sell by doesn't seem helpful to me because I would not know how much longer I could keep it.

By the way , I cruise the meat counter in our local store many mornings because they discount the meat 50% the day before the "best before" date. No way near the deal you got but not bad, most of it I give to Chris to help with his grocery bills.

Holy cow! That is one of the best deals of all time, I think!

$9.99 per pound for deli roast beef? Yikes, I couldn't afford to shop there, either!

What a buy on the furniture! And that green vase with the daisies on it is really beautiful. By the way, I have your little green gnome's brother. LOL. He's sitting instead of laying down. The bunny is wonderful. He's in the Dedham style of bunny stuff. The red and green owls are really cute, southwestern looking. And the butter churn...be still my heart. What a wonderful buy on that. I feel for you. Funny rarejem!! A lot of you sound like me. I can relate to the camera story. I have placed the last few daylily beds in rows of three or four, so I can reach in and pop off spent flowers without hitting the tops of other scapes and breaking them off. It is really disheartning (sp) when you've waited all year to see one bloom. By the way, I have been to Edith Sliger's garden a few times. She is a great person. Her grandson helps her in her garden. I think maybe it's "Sell By" because it's sliced Deli meats and cheeses. Ready-to-eat stuff.
Maybe it's regional, heck I don't know! :+)

I can't afford $9.99 per pound either. Even if I could, I wouldn't...seems like a rip-off to me! I can buy a beef roast for less than $3.00/lb. and cook it myself. Even with the "loss" of liquids and fats and the energy used to cook it, it's waaayyyyy less per pound!

Me thinks some rich folks is lazy!!

a few years back the local genuardi's gooed up with their chicken order. apparently the head butcher put in an order with the supplier, then the assistant did, when the order didn't come the next in line placed the order with the supplier. they had more chicken than they knew what to do with.

i paid nineteen cents a pound for boneless breast and filled a shopping cart and a two shelves in the freezer.

i love a good deal and i certainly can't pass it up. you did great.

Primo Taglia is their 'top of the line' deli meat.. I don't by much in the way of meat at our Safeway..even from the deli.

I do LOVE Dietz and Watson deli meats from Albertsons though.(usually buy onsale for about 6.99/lb) And 99% of my meat is purchased there as well..best quality and PRICE in my town.

At my supermarket, most fresh meats have a Sell By date as opposed to a "Best if used by" date. I once asked the butcher about this and he told me to consider it a conservative Use By Date, and that the meat will be good for a minimum of 1-2 days after that. I have also noticed that all custom cuts both from the butcher or deli and any other deli orders will always have the current date as the Sell By date.

My rule of thumb - use raw pre-packaged food by Sell By Date, buy custom cut raw meat within a day or two of cooking, eat deli salads ASAP so they don't get mushy, eat cold cuts within 3-4 days of slicing. I've been known to stretch the cold cuts a bit.

What a great price on the meats! I sure would have stocked up too.

Our local grocery store went out of business last Spring but they removed all the good stuff before they started marking things down.
