Kitchen organizing projects (pics)

Here are some pics of my freshly organized kitchen cabinets (butler's pantry), jelly cupboard (living room), side board (dining room), and tablecloth closet (hall). Still working on the shelving area at top of basement steps.

Very neat.It must have been a lot of work. I love the glasswear. Is it Depressionn glass? I collect pink Depression glass, a pattern called Colonial Knife and Fork.

I am jealous. My cupboards are organized (like items with like items) but nowhere as neat as yours. Something to think about...

I would really vote against the lockers. They don't work well in schools and they don't work well in families with small kids. Kids just shove the stuff in and go and when someone opens the locker, everything tumbles out. The first thing I see is "too much, too many." It looks like every pair of shoes in the family is being stored in a very busy spot. It the shoes won't be worn at least every couple of days, I would get them into the bedroom storage closets. Keep only those pairs worn constantly in that area. Each of my kids have two hooks. Beneath their hooks is space for their winter boots and one pair of shoes. The two hooks are fine for their coat and backpack. Once the weather changes, only the coat needed for that weather is on the hook. Other coats go into the coat closets. I have rubber mats or throw rugs for the shoes to collect the drips since we are going into spring messes here. During the summer they keep their bike helmet on one hook while the backpacks are back in the bedroom closets. I would set up a larger corner cabinet for ironing board/vacuum if you don't have anywhere else for that. The pet dish could go right next to the corner if that's the only place you can keep their food. I would not have the bench unless you really, really, really have to sit. It will only continue to be a catch-all. Put hooks up for your purse. One thing to think about for a mud-room is that is has to change to meet the needs of the season. You can't keep everything there on a permanent basis or the room can't be very functional. The more kids have to open and close storage in my house, the less likely they will use it on a consistent basis. Our area usually looks pretty neat, serves the purpose and no one is every digging through stuff to find what they need. And we live in a winter climate, so we do have tons of extra gear at times. I create folders also based on category. But another thing I do, I PDF print webpages and threads and then store them in the appropriate folder. There are some free PDF creation softwares available. When you go to print, you select it like Printer. I think the best thing to do is make sure your file names are well done. This is in my Appliance Folder: Cooktop_GE_Induction_36inch_PHP960_Sears.pdf Labeling the file well (pic, PDF, etc.) makes doing a keyword search much easier. Also, if I'm out 'shopping', I take a picture of the store front or business card first and then follow it with a pic of the price tag/info tag followed by various views of the item. Plus, I take a tape measure with me and show that in the pic also. Sometimes the item doesn't have measurements readily available like small appliances. Organizing the picture taking in this manner helped me tremendously. Of course, you need to off-load/copy the pics onto your computer. I leave pertinent pics on my camera in case I need to do show-and-tell to the salesperson. And....in my browser (which happens to be IE), I have a folder of bookmarks with all of my browsable links. If I used the site as a source or might purchase an item, then I bookmark it. Again, make the link names something recognizable/why you bookmarked the site: Johnson Hardware Pocket Door Good luck! Jamie, that looks great, but may I make a suggestion? When I first did mine I did just as you did and it looked great, at least to me, but it seemed incomplete. If you buy two more sheets you will have enough to finish under the two small cabinets. You'll be surprised to see how much prettier it looks than it already is. I hate to post my pictures here, but I really want you to see the difference. I just took this one. It's not great, but you'll see what I'm talking about.

Very nice Caroline,the runner is very pretty. I cleaned my sewing room today and decluttered it,does that count??? Not doing much xmas sewing this year,just a quilt for my GGD,and maybe one for her brother as well.That's why i had to clean my sewing room,so i could have room to work. Kathi

Tina beautifully organized areas full of beautiful things. You must get so much pleasure to open something and see the order. The bonus is how useable everything is too! Great work!!

contrats! I agree w/ tre3--it must feel nice to open the doors, and see both the order AND the beautiful stuff.

Did everybody notice: that closely spaced shelf that's holding the French White Corning flat casserole? (lid is upside down, no?).

That's great storage.

(you might consider seeing if you could fit a shelf like that in the toaster cabinet--the toaster doesn't need headroom (though the nesting bowls might), and you might be able to steal some headroom from the other shelves--enough to fit something short. (like, maybe the ramekins on the top shelf can have their own shelf to stand one, *not* nested?)

Good morning! How nice to come here and see all your reponses. Thanks a bunch.

I am absolutely loving how clear the space is. Before, if I needed to get something, I had to pull other stuff out, usually stacked and heavy. It made a simple task a chore. Now it's easy to see what's there, and the pieces that remain are items that get used. This is definitely the case where less is more.

jannie - I believe the light green wine and cordial glasses are Depression glass. They were my grandmother's. I think pink Depression glass is so pretty. I don't know anything about patterns, but I love to see tables set with pink and green glass mixed with white stoneware. It's such a nice look for spring and summer. How did you come to collect your pattern?
