Germinating Seeds inside in Plastic Bag
Comments (1)Cool. But I'm just kind of wondering where you find rabbits who are timid enough to be scared away by a 6-8-inch seedling....See MorePre Sprouting Seeds in plastic bags
Comments (25)While sprouting daylily seeds recently, I came upon a method that works really well. I mix my hydrogen peroxide/distilled water in a container, then after the seeds have germinated, I soak a round cotton pad [not the balls, the flat cotton pads] in the solution, squeeze most of the water out, then put the seeds in half of it, fold the other half over and put back in the plastic baggie. This works just great! Also, for storing seeds in the fridge, a friend told me about this idea. Cut the bottom out of a cereal box, about 3-4" high, and you have a nice storage container to line the seed baggies up instead of jumbling them up in a bigger plastic bag. They take up hardly any space in the fridge. Got lots of these seedlings to plant this afternoon! Judith...See MorePlastic vs. Paper bags
Comments (7)brown paper bags are composed of post consumer content. not sure of the percentage. also, a brown paper bag will decompose in a few years making something better. cant say that about plastic bags. as far as recycling plastic, yes theyre recycling plastic. however alot of places its difficult to find someone to recycle plastic bags. here in virginia i have to go to a business that takes plastic bags(target is the only one i can think of now). the city wont recycle them. the city wont recycle anything that isnt a plastic bottle. they recently starting allowing the caps. some places are years behind the curve. i had to throw a patio chair in the trash even after arguing with the waste management folks that HDPE is HDPE regardless of what shape it comes in... silly. and i just realized this thread is a year old. sorry...See MoreFluff post: plastic garbage bags
Comments (33)Our parents on both sides were on farms and used food scraps for livestock etc and what was burnable was burned. Garbage was buried until dumps came along closer to their country homes. Here we must separate all recyclables into blue bins and bags for paper/newspaper. We also are required to put compostables into a separate container. These are all taken once a week. Garbage is minimal and is picked up every two weeks. We use tall generic garbage bags and put it out once about month. Any stinkies (drip liners for meat mostly) are kept in the freezer and put out in the garbage bags....See MoreUser
