Amazon has some pretty good prices. The link I posted has the toaster oven ones on it, but you can also buy a larger one and cut it down. Might get two for just over price of one? Not sure of toaster measurments.

I don't think you are supposed to cut them. I have a Matfer, which isn't the same brand but looks to be made the same as the Silpat. There's woven material inside the silicone, which can become exposed and fray if you cut the mat. The warranty on mine specifically says not to cut it. I'd try to get the right size rather than futz around with scissors and possibly ruin it.

Yikes. Of course you're right maureen, they're silicone over fiberglass. I forgot about the fiberglass part. That's what I get for trying to answer a question with 70#'s of dog on my legs. I guess my brains aren't in my butt, but in my legs.. smiles. Thanks for catching that. Yes, that is the one I sent her to also on Amazon.

I have a one and hate it. It feels so greasy to the touch. I have used it once or twice and found no benefit. I would toss it but it was a gift from my son and I don't want to hurt his feelings.

Coconut, I know what it's like to be hypnotized by 70 pounds of dog! I spend half my life that way. ;o)

I use mine a lot, Mimsic. The greasy feel is what keeps things from sticking. Maybe you could find another use for yours if you don't like to use it for baking. I never throw out anything I got as a gift either.

silpat is great for kneading bread as well as baking....and yes it doea feel "greasy" but if you wash it, its' not.

QVC sells a brand of silicone products called Prepology. I've never used them, but I've seen the shows where they've been demonstrated. One of the claims is that the sheets can be cut to size.

I just use kitchen parchment. Is a silpat all that more wonderful? I knead bread on a large HDPE cutting board from a restaurant supply store. It's a heavy hunk of stuff that stays put.

Wilton made (and may still make) a silicone baking sheet liner. I got one on sale to cut down to 10'' x 10'' for my counter top convection oven. It was inexpensive and works well. A friend gave me a Tupperware silicone mat that I use for baking prep. It also works well to keep a pan or mixing bowl from sliding on the counter top.

I use parchment paper, too, and aluminum foil. I want it for my toaster oven particularly. I fold up aluminum foil for the tray that came with the toaster oven. I just get tired of replacing and throwing the aluminum away after use. I don't like to clean the tray that came with the toaster oven, it is difficult and tedious. I've replaced the tray and it quickly looked messy all over again. I'm trying to find an alternative to throwing away the foil. What temp can the Wilton silicone baking sheet liner withstand?? Where did you buy it? Also, is the Silpat pliable or rigid? I'm wondering if it is easy to pull out of the oven, or if it always needs some kind of baking sheet underneath it. Christy :)

I have used it to close to 400F.

I saw Silpat mats at Bed,Bath and Beyond store today when I was there with my daughter. She was looking for drawer dividers.

I found the Wilton today at Target for $10.00. I can get two toaster oven sheets out of it, and it says it is good up to 500 degrees. I'll see how I like it, and I might just need to get some more!! Christy

I'm ordering them to use on my induction cooktop, apparently it works as far as not scratching the glass surface.

Cotehele: I was alarmed when I read in one of your posts that you got a large piece of silpat to cut down for use in your convection oven. I wondered about that after reading these posts and went to the manufacturer's website to learn more. The DeMarle website specifically states not to cut silpat or use sharp instruments on it. It has fiberglass in it and the fiber glass can migrate to food if the surface is cut. That can't be a good thing. They even go so far as to say to store it flat, not folded, to wash with warm water, not to scrub it and to air dry it.

I am still not a fan but I might try it again and see if I can overcome my aversion to the greasy feel of the thing. I do prefer the aesthetic of parchment paper though.
