A great idea for supermarkets

Just got back from grocery shopping, where the pharmacy gives you one of those beeper things to let you know your prescription is ready.

How about a similar product that helps you locate your husband when he wanders off in the store? They could offer it at the door, maybe just a stick on lojack-type thingy for the back of his hand, and give you a thingy that, when you press on it, says what aisle he's in.

I sure could have used it today :)

PS - all this know is really getting to me.

OMG I would so go for that! I try to make sure he has his cell phone and I have mine because some times that is the only way I can find him. I have wheeled my self around an entire store multiple times in my wheel chair trying to find him, sometimes I think he is hiding from me LOL. Generally if they have a tool dept that is where I find him.( or we are going in circle looking for each other!)

What works for us (me especially because I forget time) is to set a time when we go in especially a big super Walmart. Such as, meet here (like at checkouts) in 2 hours, 1/2 hour etc. But it is even better when he stays home!!!
Our stores are good for paging someone--

great idea for a pebble tray

    Q

    Comments (20)
Paul: yes, and my aluminum trays are from the dollar store; I know from experience they have a limited life. I will have to watch carefully, to prevent spillage all over the floor. but for as long as they last, this is a very convenient arrangement. Instead of each plant having its own pebble tray, I have 5 small and one mid-size plant on a tray. So have only one to keep filled, and takes less space. and it doesn't look as bad as I thot it might, the plants direct one's eyes away from the aluminum. I could get one of those roasting pans that are not aluminum, which would look better and last longer.

    Bloom Supermarket

    Q

I agree with bumblebeez and prefer Publix bakery and deli. While they are generally higher priced, their specials are usually pretty good deals. My favorite thing about Bloom is the checkout process. You sign up and get a shoppers card (no charge) then when you come in, scan your card, you get a pricing/scanner wand, not sure what proper name is, and as you select your items you scan them, bag them in your buggy, and when finished go to checkout, pay, and go. You only handle your items once and you can bag like you want. They also use paper bags with handles, much better than plastic. The concept is great!! and I love it. Murphy

The joy of the ethnic supermarket

    Q

I am very fortunate to live in an area in which there is a lot of diversity. Here's a perfect example of how wonderful these markets are: 25 pounds of rice costs around $7, bell peppers are $.25 ea because they are neither green nor red but green with red and can't be sold as either. I love the ethnic markets. I've never had a problem with labels because all of them are in both the native language and in English.

What a great idea...altho sometimes we have taken our little walkie-talkie things to locate each other. (I am usually the one that "gets lost" from him in the store elec. cart.) Nanny

OMG, I thought I was the only one. I had to laugh when I read ravencajun's post, because I've thought that exact same thing. Just couldn't figure out where he could hide. Where the heck do they disappear to? I've told him that for every 5 minutes I stand in front of the store waiting for him, it costs him about $20 when I think of other things I want/need. That didn't even cure him.

I split our grocery list in half and he shops for his half and I shop for mine. Drives me nuts if I have to wait long--once it was over 15 minutes and he always has a few items less than I do.

Your husbands, like, leave your side while you shop? DH sticks to me like glue. Follows me around like a goat, trying to rush me through. If I step away for a second to look at something, he turns the cart around to follow me, then has to swing it around again almost immediately once I start going again.

    Drives. Me. Crazy.

    Dances

LOL Dances. My ex did the same thing and so does my dad. It irritates me to no end. Even when we're supposed to meet at a certain time, they'd still come look for me.

"How about a similar product that helps you locate your husband when he wanders off in the store? "

    We have that!
It's called a cell phone, and it works well.

LOL, Dances! That's exactly why Harry has his own list. I got tired of him saying, "What do you need that for?" I just traded one problem for another :-)

I'll go shopping with DH, then all of a sudden I can't find him in the store. I know he wouldn't leave without me. So i pay for my groceries, put them in the car, then walk back in the store to try and find him. A GPS would be super! He always says he was looking for me while I was looking for him!

Yeah I just call him and listen for the ring. I like the pharmacy pager. They don't have to scream your name out in the store.

Most of the time i leave him home!! He's the one that adds all"THE JUNK' to the basket, besides he has no patients.Works for me.

Years back I saw a couple people using FRS radios in the stores to track each other but today it seems like there's about 1.7 cell phones per person so people are calling each other all the time besides babbling incoherently all the time. And now with the bluetooth they wander around seemingly talking to themselves all day, not unlike Jimmy Hutmaker. Drives me up a wall.

When I went to the hospital emergency room 6-7 years ago they used sort of a pager thing. It was about the size of a dinner plate (I suppose so people wouldn't take off with them) and they'd page you when it was your turn. Reminded me of one of the "Simon" games only it had more lights on it.

that's what cell phones are for, lol...we use ours all the time...

problem is he tends to forget to take his cell phone with him, he says on weekends he is not wanting any one from work finding him! And truthfully I often forget to charge mine, and the meeting time does not work he quit wearing a watch. I may get a leash and hook him to my wheel chair!

I used to have DS paged almost every time we went to a store. He said when he heard himself paged he would just stand still for a minute so no one else would know it was him and then he would high tail it to the checkout area.

I once had a clerk ask if I needed help looking for something and I said "yes, my husband". Clerk said "try a dating service". I wanted to smack him LOL

I had mine surgically implanted with a GPS, but he can usually be found in the junk food aisle.

    Cell phones work wonders!

This is why I rarely allow my husband to shop with me. On the very few occasions that he does (like recently when we were purchasing a new TV and he had to have a sayso) he has always wandered off. Since he has inevitably forgotten his cell phone, it is very aggravating to be searching for him for 10, 15, 20 mins. I have seriously considered tying a helium balloon to his wrist, or maybe getting one of those mommy-toddler coiled wrist bracelet attachments. Hopefully, I won't have to allow him to shop with me for another year or two.

Better yet, how about some kind of zapper for the back of the hand, with a serious zap when they start picking up the junk food? :)

Mine too!!! So distracting and 'get done' attitude. You would think that after 20 years, he would get my very verbal message :-0

Dances: Was that YOU at the Home Depot paint counter? Some woman was surprised (as in, "BOO!" surprise) when her hubby walked up behind her and asked her "What do you want with that paint?" She told him "Go back to your truck! I don't need you here!"

I had to keep from cracking up! I wondered how long they'd been married and how long one of them had been retired!

(I think what some folks really need is a low-grade pocket stun gun--nothing that'd flatten him but just give him a little "wake up" buzz. Handy in so many instances: When he leaves the bathroom and you just know the toilet seat is still up; when you've sent him to the supermarket and you know he's on his way home with only half the list...)

I want them to make some " see the thing that is right in front of your face glasses" he is constantly saying what did you do with so and so I can not find it and I know you moved it! My reply is it is right where it has always been just look. NOPE not there I told you so. Then I walk(actually roll) up and right in front of him I pick up said item and hand it to him from RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS FACE! Then he says well it wasn't there a second ago LOL
why can't they just admit defeat? LOL

Last weekend he tore my laundry room up looking for a certain light bulb, I told him exactly, I mean exactly, which shelf it was on etc, well naturally he could not find it, after I start to hear things falling and crashing I go in there to find him on a ladder going through all the top shelves (I am in a wheel chair do you think I can reach those top shelves? ) I go directly to the shelf(lowest) I told him it was on, pull it out and hand it to him as he stands on his ladder and watched. He then said well how did you find that? This is why I keep my hair short now not so easy to pull it out. LOL oh the joys of getting older.

Couple of months ago DH bought a new wallet. Kept the old one around. Yesterday, he said "don't know why I kept this around, I'm going to toss it." I jokingly said "I'll look through it to see if there is a $100 bill stuck in it." Guess what????? I pulled out a folded up $100 bill!!!! DH will never again say "it isn't there", be it wallet, refrigerator, drawer or whatever!!!

Never take husbands shopping, they usually hate it. Keep them working and away from home. They enjoy their work. When at home they sit in a recliner and grow roots!

DH and I got separated in a big huge supermarket. After looking for him awhile, I decided to have him paged. But I was embarassed to admit I had lost my husband, so I went to Customer Service to say I'd lost my little boy named "Victor". They announced it over their PA and he came trotting up to the front of the store. At least I found him.

Men usually depart this earth at a younger age than women ...

... and many wives are a couple of years younger than their hubbies.

One of these days you may be without him.

Rejoice in your current good fortune, O.K.?

    ole joyful

P.S. Without taking divorce into account, of course.

I too have experienced all the episodes mentioned above losing him and what DANCES IN GARDEN HAS SAID...and then when my patience wears thin I think of what OLD JOYFUL says...cell phones would not work with us...he can not hear the house phone when it rings...(or so he says...I think it is (selective hearing)...lol...Mary
