Whew. Party's over. We've cleaned up, kind of. Got to bed at 1:30 am. The tuna turned out pretty well. It was different from the previous fish. Flesh was softer, fattier, not as firm. I skipped the chirasi course because I didn't think this fish was all that suited to sashimi. And I skipped the last course because it was getting late and people were full. The third most favorite dish was tuna marinated in miso and lots of sea salt for 24 hours. Served with a topping of wasabi tobiko (wasabi-infused flying fish roe, buy it at a Japanese market) and a smear of honey-wasabi sauce (exactly what it sounds like, honey mixed with a-not-quite toe-curling amount of wasabi powder). The runner up was the blast-seared tuna. Mix soy sauce, honey, and wasabi. Marinate tuna loin block overnight. Roll loin in sesame seeds to coat. Light charcoal in chimney starter. When coals are ready, put blow dryer at base of starter, so that white flame is roaring from top. Place grill on top, sear loin, each side 20 sec. Slice loin into medallions. Top with reserved marinade. The favorite, by far, was a variant of the pan-seared tuna with ginger shiitake sauce. FOAS posted a link to this dish in the previous tuna thread. I made some modifications - pan-browned the shiitake slices first, omitted the soy sauce, omitted the lime juice, added lime zest. Several people asked for this recipe, so here it is, and thanks again to FOAS - - slice shiitake mushroom caps to 1/4 to 1/8 inch, dice stems - brown diced stems in butter, set aside - brown cap slices in butter, working in single layer and turning each slice individually, to crusty, set aside - chop 1/3 c green onions, 1/4 c cilantro, 2 tbsp fresh ginger, 4 garlic cloves - cook in pan medium heat a few minutes, add mushrooms, then 1 1/2 c whipping cream, heat to low, cook until sauce thickens, set aside - heat to high, get pan very hot, add olive oil, sear tuna just long enough to get 1/8 inch cooked layer on each side - reheat sauce, add zest of 2 limes, add a teeny splash more of cream if sauce looks tired, salt to taste (for me, about 1 tsp kosher salt) - plate and be sure to credit FOAS The last dish, which we skipped, was tuna and scallop ceviche with a salsa of my own tomatoes, peaches, and kiwi. It was something I should have served earlier in the evening. Well, I'll have it for lunch and deliver some to the neighbors.

The place where I put my PIPE is now in deep shade due to a tree that grew over that area so it hasn't done anything lately. It did put out a few long canes trying to get out to more sun lol. I need to move it, I meant to last spring but got busy with other things. I will probably place it in front of the bananas that are behind my veggie garden where its sunny and can sprawl on the fenceline. I am on 4 acres but most is shaded from huge trees, so it can be challenging finding sunny spots for my roses. Sorry I can't be of more help on the repeat. When I first planted it and it got more sun, it repeated pretty good, once established. The flowers are similar to Edens but darker pink and can sometimes put out a light pink or half light pink/half dark pink (bicolored) bloom. I know Edmunds carries it bareroot.

Larry, I love roselle after only growing it for a year. I needed to dig it out with a shovel so Rick could till the area. It had pretty massive roots. Churches are in a hard situation with the mask wearing rule. Would Jesus refuse people without a mask? I don't know. But, it's more complicated than that. Ours pretty much says wear it if you feel more comfortable wearing it. They provide masks at the doors and you can pick up communion so you don't have to get up to go to a communion table. But those tables are pretty spread out and people seem respectful about letting others get theirs before getting too close. I typically wear my mask. I teach children's classes and it's not easy teaching them in a mask and singing with them and all. Probably half of our people wear masks. We have a very large auditorium so it's easy to spread out. Our congregation is much smaller than it used to be, so the auditorium is way too big, but it works for covid situation because it allows for the spreading out of people. And we have had several people who have had covid once or twice and they have been vaccinated. I don't know what the answer is. It's all so frustrating. And there's other things floating around--some type of non-covid/non-flu virus that makes people feel like crap for days, and also a stomach bug. I love that song too, Nancy! Can you just wear a double mask to your church event? And stay apart from others? Or is your church normally shoulder-to-shoulder? And it would be nice if all of us lived close to each other. Rick and I are fortunate that we live so close to each other. Jen, I for sure want to come visit! Not this month, but soon and I'll bring that thing. Nancy, you're right about keeping thoughts to oneself. I just have so many thoughts that they start to bubble out and I want to discuss them with someone else. I have a couple of friends that I don't get to see often who are weird like me and aren't offended to discuss things that might challenge beliefs in many areas. It's not an easy thing to find in people. Oh my word, Amy! It was the strip that was messed up! Oh well, at least you have back up tablets now! That's great news that the momma and puppies have been adopted or are in other foster homes. I'm always so tempted to take a foster when I see Forever Yours is asking for help. I simply can't take care of one more pet right now, though. The only pet I sought out--other than the chickens--is Finbar. The others were rehomed to me. Josi was a foster, but the rescue got grumpy when I tried to return her to the pool of adoptable/fostered dogs. So, we kept her. Adopted her. We've had issues already this morning with Ethan's car, so I'm hoping for a good outcome. It's a very old car, but we really need it to keep going for another year or so. There's always something, right?

Rosa Zone 7a, Those are the most amazing pictures. Like royalty/public gardens quality. I'm dreaming, I think. I really like how you transitioned from rock path to grass. Would you be willing to post other pics of your rose garden? I'm totally gleaning ideas....
