Tooth Got Pulled

Hi everyone

Well I went to dentist this morning to have the tooth removed. He gave me novacain but I still felt it a little when he pulled the tooth out. He also poked the abscess and pressed on it to help with the draining. He said the infection should go away quickly now that the tooth is gone. SO far I am doing okayÃ¯Â¿Â½managed to swallow a little bit of food today. Little skittish of chewing still. But I will rinse with salt water, take aspirin if needed, and do my best to avoid the dry socket thing.

The salt water rinse will help a lot and also if there is a lot of temp swelling take a regular tea bag and fold it up and hold around the gum area (probably with tongue) it should bring down the swelling too. I saw that on the internet and told the dentist about it and he said it works and it does help.
Pretty soon your tongue will forget about that area and you'll be able to relax

I was told by the oral surgeon not to rinse with salt water till the 2nd and 3rd day. Also told to use Tyneol or Aleve for pain if my tummy couldn't handle the hyrdocodeone, which it didn't do well on. Aspirin thins the blood and you might ooze more with it than the other. At least that is what I was told.

Glad to hear you got it taken care of. Are you taking an antibotic?

Hah hah. The "name" of the knife is from Donald Duck's 3 nephews, who are "Junior Woodchucks" (only people are cub scouts). Guess that was a little too subtle, eh? The real name is Swiss Army Knife......which is of course, a tool kit, in your pocket. Also.....the human animal has a strong tendency to raise their chins, when being photographed.....a tendency I refer to as "stargazing". So.....yes, you should lean slightly forward from the waist (drops off the waistline and reduces poundage), and you should keep your chin down, to prevent distortion of the face, when being photographed. (Do not drop your chin to an abnormal level, though.) The DPS folks have zero training in making anyone look good in a photo, so if you want a good license photo.....PREPARE for it! Do comb your hair, ladies- do use some make-up, and wear something presentable, preferably in med to dark colors, with no big prints. You are your own stylist.....for a driver's license photo, and you should prepare properly, if you don't want to have to hide your license for 8 yrs.

Robin, dear, keep your chin up. It's been a horrible few years for a lot of us...I understand completely about not having the stomach for all the lovely things one can't afford (either in time, money, or heart) to follow up. I am there myself. I find that when things feel this way, the most helpful thing I can do for myself is to focus entirely on the things I CAN control...it's very hard, when you are feeling down, to drag yourself into the bath or the kitchen or the broom closet or the walking shoes, but keeping yourself fit and clean and pressed and simply and healthily fed is something you can do, even in a tough time. Play music that you really like, have a cup of coffee, and clean something. Very therapeutic. And check back in anyway. We all come to care for each other here, don't we?

Granite knobs or pulls for cabinets, got pics??

Sorry I don't have a picture right now, but I did put granite knobs on some built-in bookshelves in my family room. The bookshelves have doors on the bottom, verde butterfly granite on top of that, and open shelves above. I like the knobs and think they look great with the granite. Actually, although I don't have my own picture, there is a picture on the website of the guy who built them for me. It's not a close up but maybe this will help you get an idea. Ability, experience, common sense, and patient empathy vary considerably from dentist to dentist. Some of you really need to move on and find a new dentist. It's not all that unusual but some of these episodes fall short of what's reasonable to expect. Especially yours, Nicole. That dentist sounds inept. Dental procedures should involve a minimum of pain and stress. If you get worked up about it before you even walk in the door, the likelihood/chances of having a tolerable experience are greatly reduced. A procedure with the right dentist should be positive, comfortable and effective, something you want to tell others about and one for which no anxiety is produced for future visits. Everyone should have a dentist who will give you such experiences, and a dentist who puts patient well-being before their own. They're around to be found.

I hope your dentist reminded you not to smoke for a while until you heal.....dry socket is very painful. Also no using straws to drink fluids with, either.
Hope things heal quickly and you have no further problems.

With the symptoms you have, you tooth may have died. Surprised? Yes, good healty teeth are "alive". They have a pulp chamber, blood flow, and nerves. You are reminded about the nerves when you get a tooth ache. If a tooth dies (the nerve dies), the remanents become a source of infection and abcesses. Such teeth may become canidates for root canal or extraction. After an infected tooth has been removed, your body can better combat the infection.

But then, you knew all that anyway, so here's wishing you the best of luck.
