Survived the shots, & the tooth pulling

I appreciate all the prayers & good thoughts for the shots, I did just fine. I was the first one this morning!! On the way home I called our dentist & told them about the crown I broke, they said come right on in. They ended up pulling the tooth. So I won't be doing any chewing on that side til January when my dental insurance kicks in again, then I will either need a bridge or a partial..

But thanks again for the prayers I felt them alll!!!

Glad you are feeling better. Just watch the tooth so it does heal ok and not get infected. I have gotten into the habit of automatically rinsing my mouth each time I go to the dentist. Seems to work for me. If it hurts, ask if you can use warm salt water. That helps too.

Raven, I have no experience with blueberries or low ph soil. My experience in the fertilizer business has been that dry sulfer is the cheapest. If I remember right dry sulfer comes in a 90% formulation. Ammonium sulfate adds some, but you would have to use a LOT of product compared to just using dry sulfer. You can not dissolve Dry sulfer into a slurry though I don't think. If you want to go liquid it comes that way, but it costs a lot more. It would take 5900 pounds of ammonium sulfate ($1200-2000) to do the same thing, and adding that much AMS would add a lot of nitrogen and Im not sure if you would need that or not. Around here you could find a dry fertilizer outfit to bring a spreader out if it was a big enough job. 1/2 acre not so much. But I bet it could be done as an experiment even with a yard spreader, or some kind of pull behind a 4-wheeler spreader. It would just take some math to make sure you got it spread right. It would need incorporated, either with rain or mechanically. If my calculations are right it would take 296 gallons of a 26% liquid sulfer product to amend 1/2 acre from 6 down to 4.5ph.

I am not Susan but I will tell you about my experience. I had a root canal and somehow, the tooth got fractured. Dentist said that happens sometimes. It was extremely painful and he said the only thing to be done was to pull the tooth, which cost me even more. If the tooth doesn't show when you smile and you don't want to spend the money, go for the extraction. I was so relieved to get rid of the constant pain of the fractured tooth, the pain from the extraction was tolerable. I think I only took one Rx pain pill and then ibuprofen worked. Just remember if you get the extraction, don't smoke, don't drink from straws and follow the instructions from the dentist to prevent a dry socket.

chisue, The removable tooth replacement works differently then they told you. A removeable single tooth replacement is called a Nesbitt. I believe after the person that designed it. An impression is taken of the area and a metal casting is made that has strong metal clasps that clip onto the tooth that is on each side of the space. Not around like the partial denture they described . The fact you already have crowns on those teeth is a plus. Once the frame is made, material is processed to the metal. It will look like a perfect tooth sitting on pink healthy gum. It will give you chewing surface, keep the other teeth from moving and will be affordable. Depending on your location, probably $1,000 to $1,800. If there is a dental school in your area , treatment is available on a sliding fee scale. A good choice , very supervised treatment at reduced fees. Including implants. The implant is an ideal replacement, not a problem recovery wise. But a big investment. Doing nothing is always an option after an extraction. What most people do not realize is you loose more then one tooth when you have an extraction. You loose the function of the opposing tooth that no longer has a chewing surface to contact. The empty space can allow the opposing to tooth to move out of its socket (extrusion). This happens over time, not in a year. Depends on how your teeth come together (bite). The single tooth replacement is a good choice, but be aware, food gets around it and it can be annoying. Extra attention to keeping that area clean is a must. More information to think about. I have worked 50 years as a chairside 4 handed assistant.

Ability, experience, common sense, and patient empathy vary considerably from dentist to dentist. Some of you really need to move on and find a new dentist. It's not all that unusual but some of these episodes fall short of what's reasonable to expect. Especially yours, Nicole. That dentist sounds inept. Dental procedures should involve a minimum of pain and stress. If you get worked up about it before you even walk in the door, the likelihood/chances of having a tolerable experience are greatly reduced. A procedure with the right dentist should be positive, comfortable and effective, something you want to tell others about and one for which no anxiety is produced for future visits. Everyone should have a dentist who will give you such experiences, and a dentist who puts patient well-being before their own. They're around to be found.

Thank you...I told you I would be back at the KT this afternoon...But I think I am going to go take some Tylenol as I am getting a bit of a headache & lay down for a while..

I'm glad about the shots, but not about your poor mouth. Hope it heals quickly. Good idea to take the IP and sleep if you can.

Glad all went well with the shots. I sort of suspected you would have to have the tooth pulled but I didn't want to be the bearer of bad news. The same thing happened to me one time when we were on vacation and I had the same end result. Along about now you're probably feeling a little miserable. Hope you feel lots better tomorrow. Some ice packs, maybe?

I know how awful it is to have dental problems. Hope you feel better real soon.

Have you considered getting an implant? That is much better than a bridge or a partial...more expensive, but it's like a real tooth.

Don't smoke cigarettes or drink liquids through a straw to prevent the painful dry socket.
Hope your dentist told you.

After one extraction, there was still plenty of beach time. Had to drink beer thru a straw. Still missing some front teeth, it takes several rotations to get the corn off the cob. Good luck on chewing.

The best advice I got when I had my molars surgerically removed? Soak sponges, and keep in the freezer. The conform to your face much more easily than ice cubes.

I'm glad it's over, at least for now. I lost a filling in a back molar several weeks ago, went to my dentist, he tried to fill the tooth and while drilling the tooth broke in two in my mouth. Since I was already numbed, he sent me directly to an oral surgeon who pulled it. Lucky I heal fast and I was fine soon after.
