Borrowed Photos -- How Do You Use Them?
Comments (18)Since I blog, I post a lot of photos. My photos show up in Google Image searches as well. I've just recently started watermarking some of them, but those can be cropped out by a clever person. However, I have granted a "Creative Commons" use of mine since my blog is syndicated. Meaning, if someone uses a photo, they've got to give the owner the credit. The real concern for most folks is that no one PROFITS from the reuse of the material without permission. Heck, I don't even profit from my work! Cameron...See MoreGriddle vs. Grill on a range... like 'em? How do you use them?
Comments (24)I had the 48" DCS in my last house. Overall we weren't impressed with the DCS, it needed service a couple of times in the first couple of years (we lived with it for 4). However, the griddle was great, we loved it. It was great for pancakes, toasted sandwiches and reheating pizza! We had the grill, but as vegans didn't use it much, maybe for veggie burgers etc. It did work well and seemed to get as hot as needed. I recently bought the 44" Aga Legacy for my real Victorian remodel. SOOOO unhappy with it that my awesome dealer (Yale Appliance in Boston) offered to take it back (long story). We picked out a 48" Monogram with the griddle today to replace it. We are very lucky that we can move a cabinet and fit the 48" in. I was sold on the Monogram by the chef who works at Yale. He is beyond knowledgable and has no incentive to sell me anything. He pointed out lots of features the Monogram has over the Viking, Wolf etc. I was also shopping ovens, and the size and rolling shelves of the Monogram sealed the deal. GE took the brand back from DCS and really put a lot of thought and engineering into the brand....See MoreHow do you store your oils when using them?
Comments (7)I had a toasted sesame oil go rancid in the fridge since so little is needed for a dish or dressing. I but the smallest container for the less used oils. I now date them on top with a sharpee as i do spices and baking powder. Coconut oil has a very long shelf life and not needed to fridge. When warmed i mix it with other oils to make it pourable for some cooking and also for body lotion in small batches. So yes, keep your specialty oils in the fridge in their original containers. I've had this bottle and spout for probably 6 yrs. Re-fill often so it sits out like Annie for drizzling and dressings. (costco has a great organic evoo). And it goes through the dishwasher spout and all. I recently purchased a vinegar that came with a spout and the spout was garbage. Did not stay on and made a mess. This spout came in a 3pack and the others are still in the misc. drawer not yet needed so it is a quality one. (last night was pizza night, yummy)...See MoreRECIPE: Potatoes? How do you use them?
Comments (20)In the interest of objectivity, I forgot to note that if the potato absorbs some of the salty liquid, you'd need to add additional water or unsalted broth to make up for the diminished liquid. The resulting broth would, indeed, be less salty. By the way, since my husband is on a low sodium diet now, it took me a while to figure out how to make tasty mashed potatoes. You don't appreciate the contribution of salted boiling water for cooking the potatoes until you're not able to use it. Every time I made traditional mashed potatoes, they tasted beyond bland. Boiling peeled & cut up potatoes in plain water, seemed to wash away every bit of flavor. I finally learned to steam whole unpeeled potatoes until tender enough to mash. The steaming did not wash away flavor and the potato skins also kept the flavor intact. I just mash the soft potatoes, adding unsalted butter & some warm milk. I remove the potato skin chunks as I'm mashing, but sometimes I don't even bother doing that. Add several grinds of black pepper, some chopped chives or scallions, and the potatoes taste pretty good....See Morelannadelarosa
