Thanks. I decided to make a quick trip to Dollar General for the tissues which isn't far away, big mistake. I wanted C batteries too for a fabric shaver since I had thrown my throw into the washer and it came out a mess. DG didn't have the batteries so drove next door to RKO for those. By the time I get home, I'm burning up and white as a ghost.

Well, I do have some Italian Wedding Soup, not chicken noodle, but it tasted good. Also drank some Lemon and Ginger tea sweetened with honey awhile ago. I got some Puffs tissues that have lotion in them, never tried them before. In fact, I don't normally buy tissues but I went through my cotton hankies within hours! Thought maybe the Puffs would have too strong a scent, but they don't.

Aw, poor baby. I am just at the tail end of the same thing. Tylenol Cold and Flu helped a lot and the night time version helped me sleep. I also got tissues with lotion for my poor nose. Now I am just blowing my nose constantly. Ick.

Feel better. How about tea with honey?

If the cough starts, especially at night, the only thing that helped my husband was Deslyn. He took other stuff while he was running a fever and was so stuffy but once that left, he has tried to go to just taking something with a single ingredient for the cough and something else just for the chest congestion. You can really get over dosed when you take stuff that you don't need. Its been over two weeks for him and he is down just to the night cough but it still makes him feel really tired not to get a good nights sleep.

I took a lot of theraflu, some airborne and some zicam... plus glasses and glasses of oj, and several batches of chicken soup.

I feel fine now, but still cough up phlegm...

I hope, you get on the mend faster than I did.

Thanks again for the well wishes. I just checked my medicine cabinet and way in back I found some Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold Medicine, there's only one pack in the box and it's probably years old; wish I would have thought to buy some new at DG. That usually helps me. Darn. Never tried Theraflu, Airborne, or Zicam. Will keep the Deslyn in mind if cough starts, which thank goodness hasn't yet. Tylenol Cold and Flu sounds like a good one too. Me and orange juice don't agree, Mom says same thing happened when I was a baby, slight stomach upset for some reason. I love it tho. I might buy some tomorrow anyway.

Two weeks for your hubby, mboston? Oh gosh, sure hope that's not what is in store for me. Hope he gets back to 100% soon! All this sneezing is making my throat sore.

Afrin is really pretty bad stuff but I think if you use it for several days once a year it won't hurt. Feel better real soon.

In our household, a nasal irrigator alleviates the misery of a head cold and shortens the duration. My husband uses it several times a week during allergy season to prevent sinus problems. I highly recommend it...you just won't believe the relief it can bring.

I cannot take most of the OTC cold/flu medications on the market, either due to my high blood pressure or chemical sensitivities. I'm the queen of natural home remedies!

I should be careful too, because I also have high blood pressure. Plus I have asthma - my doctor has told me in the past to make sure I get the pneumonia shot but I never did. I've had pneumonia three times in my life (before asthma diagnosis)and it ain't fun. rhizo, believe it or not I was thinking about the nasal irrigaters last night and wondering how they work exactly.

Today I'm doing a little better, not so much headache and stuffy nose; but unfortunately I feel a cough coming on now and then especially when I take a deep breath. Trying to stay quiet and warm as much as possible but I get restless. I did manage to go to the market this morning and get juice and my popsicles.

I use sinus rinse and it really does help.

Do you have a fever? I'm thinking you need to see the doc on Monday. You don't want pneumonia again.

Well, I was dumb not to call the doctor Thursday or yesterday. Last night it went into my chest big time and I slept sitting as straight up as possible so I wouldn't cough. I'm not sure she's in today but I could leave a message on the machine. My stepdad is running to the drug store this morning for Mucinex DM for me.

No thermometer in the house, so not sure about fever. I hate being sick. Definitely will request the shot after this is all over.

If doctor isn't in, you might want to check to see if there is an urgent care in your area if you feel you are getting worse.

I was sick with a cold or something that wasn't really all that bad but the junk doesn't want to go away. Mostly this dry tickley cough that keeps nagging at me. I think I used every home remedy known to mankind but still get hit out of the blue with a tickling in my throat that makes me cough my head off. Have to keep a pocket full of cough drops in case I'm out and it hits me....so annoying! ACK!

The same thing happens to me, arkansas girl, and if I get going I lose my lunch, or breakfast or whatever I ate last. Night time is a challenge! Yes, a cough drop and/or hot water with honey helps; if I can just get to sleep I will usually stay asleep.

Schoolhouse, I hope you are feeling better very soon, but if you are feeling worse please go to urgent care and get checked out.

sjerin, to sleep I had to take a cough suppressant like Robitussin DM. That would help the coughing at night but that was the worst part of the whole cold is the night time coughing fits and yes, at times I'd start gagging myself I'd cough so much! HORRIBLE! Why is it that the cough comes on in the evening, and for me even before I'd go to bed...I'd just be sitting and watching TV and the later it would get the more I'd cough...ACK!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess because we sit still in the evening and everything settles. One time I had a coughing fit in the bank and was desperate not to urp up, but it was a losing battle. I still remember how the tellers just stared at me and I had to pantomime to get a cup of water. Really??? It's as if my throat "catches" at times and then the coughing fit starts. I did take musinex, but it didn't help a whole lot.

I hope schoolhouse is doing ok because she hasn't posted since morning. Hopefully she is snoozing and resting.

I'm here. Mom brought the Mucinex DM around noon and I took two pills right away. Haven't noticed a whole lot of difference in how I feel yet. As long as I stay upright I'm fine, but even if I slouch in the chair I start to cough so there's no way I can lay down to sleep. I did try to doze off in the chair but the cats kept wanting in and then out,ect. ugh. Around 2pm I got a headache and my nose became all stuffed up again. Sprayed a wee bit of Afrin in each nostril - just a wee bit instead of a whole squirt; felt better then. Tonight at midnight before bed, I'll take two more Mucinex.

If my back starts to hurt, then I'll really worry because that's how it felt whenever I got pneumonia. Anyway, so far I'm about the same - no worse no better. Gonna eat some supper now, been drinking water, juice, tea, all day. ha

I forgot to say that the problem with the Afrin isn't that it's harmful(I don't think) it's just that after about 3 days your sinuses become addicted and will be closed up if you don't use it. Sometimes you just have to use it then worry about weaning yourself off of it later when you aren't dying...HA!
