I can't help but say this and keep in mind this is what I would prefer. Go with the Buttermilk and do the gorgeous green countertop. That would be beautiful on both and much morre sophistocated and classic. But this has to be what you love, So if you absolutely love the blue. I would say pick a different countertop. Plan B would be great also like you said.

I don't see the Costa Esmer going with the blue island but gorgeous with the island in buttermilk.

I think the blue door is nice too though. Can you post the pics of the other choices you are looking for?

thanks mpeg and peyton. it will be hard to give up the blue (favorite color-- we also have quite a bit of art in that color). in any case, the buttermilk was beautiful as well and is much, much safer.

i put in an email to our designer at Crown Point to see if it is too late to switch. the ocean green was really lovely and looked great with the QS oak door.

and right now we don't have more pictures, but if we go out and about on Monday, I will have my husband bring his camera.

I think the buttermilk would look wonderful with that color of granite.

I'm sure the buttermilk if gorgeous but honestly it seems like a poor subsititute for that lovely slate (which should be great with marble). I wouldn't trade a more unique element like the slate blue cabinets for a not altogether uncommon granite. I know your on a timeline but I don't think finding a granite that will you love and will work with the QS oak and the blue is an impossible task. Just a thought.

any ideas for me caryscott? i know soapstone or honed jet mist (aka virginia mist) would work. we're treating the island like furniture... it is already having different hardware and is a different color, so if it has a marble top that would actually be more in-line with what we are going for.

golds don't look good with the oak. we figured that out yesterday (and it was a surprise). looking for something with a bit of contrast that doesn't really introduce another color into the mix.

Plan B!!!! The Slate Blue with marble top ... that's a delicious combination. Soapstone would look perfect on your oak. But if you prefer granite, I've seen honed jet mist in person and it was gorgeous too.

I love your cabinet choice (blue) and the jet mist honed would be dynamite with it. A friend of mine just installed jet mist and it is fabulous. I'd go with the blue over buttermilk.

can you post a picture of jet mist???? if you end up with the ce and buttermilk, i think blue accents (like your artwork) would go well with it. i have ce and my coffee canitser has turquoise and aqua blue and it looks pretty with the ce.

I have CE and I really don't see the blue cabs going well, perhaps
accents but whole cabs take on a different look.

It sounds like the blue cabs have been your long time vision, if so, I
would think hard about changing the entire look because of a slab
that you love. All of these decisions can make you crazy and with all
of the information you get you sometimes lose your way.

Really think about how you want the final outcome to feel...

Ok I reread the posts and think if you LOVE the blue, keep it. I am in VA and they have the Va mist honed at Luckstone on display. I do not think it is going to go with the QS oak cabinetry. I know it will be on the island but am not sure it will look like it flows...
It is a very smooth light grey.

thanks, everyone. I guess I'll see if switching to buttermilk is even an option-- we liked that quite a bit too. We just started looking for slabs, so if we keep the slate (which we will probably end up doing), I think we'll put marble on that and then do something different on the perimter.

That lovely slate blue with marble will absolutley make an impression. It'll be beautiful. I think you can still go with something like Costa Esmerelda on the perimeter... just grayer instead of greener. There are tons of gray granites with lighter swirls. Everything goes by so many different names it's hard to pinpoint one. Here's a link to 5 pages of different gray granites.

I love blue too- and think that going with the buttermilk, though safe, and probably will look very nice, may not be the aha look you're envisioning.

Have you seen any jaguar gold granite? I have Butterfly Blue (which also might work in your kitchen- but probably not wow enough for you)- and because of problems with fabrication was going to have it replaced - I would have gone with the jaguar gold but it was not one of the choices offered by my kitchen company.

Anyhow, thought it might work out for you- I do have to live vicariously sometimes...

that's a great idea too-- gold looked a little odd next to the door, but we didn't look at a gold with other colors in it. i'll have to see if they have that one tomorrow when we go to another stone yard.

Danielle, where did you find the Ocean Green and was it honed? I'm still undecided about soapstone and need to make a decision asap.

I too love the buttermilk idea, but you have to go with what you think will make you the happiest in the long run.

Horrible of me to stick my nose in and not have anything constructive to offer but natural stone just isn't my thing (my dream kitchen would probably have richlite, bamboo or even an acrylic solid surface) I just wanted to stick up for the slate because I think it is really lovely and a little bit more off the beaten track (particularly combined with the QS oak). You picked the slate milk paint and the QS oak so I doubt I could come with anything better. I just tend to think as another poster pointed out that the chance of finding another great slab that will work with your initial choices isn't so remote.
