I'd say yes, but with arms and a camel back. I'd also suggest different fabric, but then again I'm trying to upholster my camelback arm chairs now, and I have yet to find the right fabric (as you may know from my posts).

I also agree on the camel back. Are the chairs you are considering at least as high as your existing chairs? I think that would be important. I also agree that you should get a different fabric.

We just bought upholstered chairs to add to our dining room. It's a tough decision, both on style and fabric.

Why do you want upholstered chairs? Is it to add color and softness or just for comfortable seating? I can see other places you could invest your money instead that would add color and interest to this room.

For upholstery, I'd avoid adding any more golden beige. Look how nice the picture frames and curtain rod look against the gold. Bring in a little more of that black or another deep tone.

I am with Kevin, yes to upholstered chair--but I would find a chair that would make more of a statement.

As much as I like the crescent, I guess the camel back does look more like the curve on the wheat back chairs. The chairs from Carrington Court would be about the same height as the the existing wood chairs. I'm thinking about adding the upholstered chairs to soften the look with so much wood.

may flowers - you are absolutely right about the amount of golden beige I have already. Did you have anything specific in mind when you said you could see other places to add color and interest to the room?

Your paint tone is very close to your floor tone, but an area rug under the table would help break up the tone-on-tone. I think the formal style of your dining set needs a rug. I'd try to bring color into the drapes. A colorful table runner would be the cheapest way to bring some interest to the table. I would think about changing the brass chandelier. It's very pretty but it fades into the walls.

Green walls would look better but I can understand if you didn't want to go green. It's so hard to find the right green. I mention green because I see you like botanicals and there might be a color you could pull from there. But it doesn't look like you can paint just the dining room without running into the problem of where to stop the paint. I have the same problem in my house.

Is it just the photo or is your chandelier hung a little too close to the window, making the table look crowded to one side? Even accounting for chair push-back, it looks like you could move the table over another foot and not block the hallway.

Thanks, may flowers! All very good suggestions! It is just the photo angle that makes the chandelier look like its hung a little too close to the window. It is not EXACTLY centered on the wall with the botanicals, but it is off by only 4 inches. There is 28" between the backs of the chairs and the window wall.

You are right about the problem with where to stop the paint. I've always wanted to be able to paint the DR a different color, but in this house, the paint has to be the same in the LR, DR, hall and even part of the entry.

I have thought about a rug, but I kinda like the contrast between the lighter color of the floor and the darker wood in the table and chairs. Also, most of the time when we use this table, it is expanded and it would be half on the rug and half off. But, IF I added a rug, do you have any suggestions?

I agree with your idea of changing the drapes. I don't know if you've been following KevinMP's threads on his DR, but I just realized that something like the drapes he replaced might be just what I need. They appeared to be a similar color to what I have now, but they also had some black in them. OR......maybe I could add some kind of trim with black, green and gold to the leading edge of the drapes.

I remember your pretty botanicals from an earlier thread. Love the idea of upholstered chairs at the head of the table. Have you considered a print that incorporates a leafy green?
