How do you keep the linen closet fresh?
Comments (3)I used to buy bar soap in bulk. (I now make my own) I would open only one end of the soap and slide it in the corner of every drawer. I had some of them in there for years. My clothes always came out smelling fresh and clean. I now make soaps and sachets in my preferred scents and do the same. When the scent starts getting weak I replace the soap with a fresh one and use the bar I had in the drawer. It is nice and aged so it lasts a lot longer than a freshly made bar....See Moreplease help us design a hall linen closet/wardrobe!
Comments (2)What you store is totally personal. I have three IKEA Pax 36" wardrobes (in the white, raised panel design) and love them. I have 2 deep ones for my clothes (there's only one closet in the master bd, and it's 4' wide) and one shallow one for linens. Few halls will be able to take a deep cabinet. Ours is 6' wide, and because of the door layout, a 2' deep closet would be claustrophobic. We do not have many linens, but our shallow cabinet is FULL with just linens for our family of four, plus some dirty clothes space at the bottom. The nice thing about the depth, though, is that everything is very accessible. We keep our meds, tp, etc. in the bathroom. Triage everything BEFORE investing in more storage. How many towels do you really need? How many meds are old? How many are duplicates? Lots of people have Nyquil AND Mucinex AND Sudafed without realizing that there is only ONE effective OTC decongestant, ONE effective OTC expectorant, and ONE effective OTC cough suppressant. Have a small bottle of decongestant/expectorant for the day (cough suppressant optional), one expectorant only for night plus Afrin for night use in emergencies, and that's it. With a bottle of pain killers and a swig of the alcohol of your choice, and you can recreate whatever branded blend you desire with a lot less total space. The basic rule is to learn to check ingredients before buying and make sure you don't duplicate products....See MoreHelp how do I best use a 9x9 space for an office?
Comments (21)The furniture and walls blend together to make the room feel larger than it is. It would look very different if that were, for instance, cherry or mahogany against off-white walls. I once also had a tiny square office, with a corner cut out for a closet. My husband had the wall to the right of the door, me to the left. My 4+' desk filled the little wall between the closet and the window, with printer, computer tower, and all office supplies tidily on shelves in the closet. I don't normally like to face a wall, but the outside was right there with a little glance to the right. An orange tree with honeysuckle growing through it was just outside, so close that (without screens) I could have reached out and touched the butterflies and hummers flitting around several months a year. Both were lessons I took from that little rental of things that really worked nice for me. Even including facing a wall in the right conditions. Here farther north, it's a bird bath under a small three the birds take their turns from....See MoreHow to best use this closet space
Comments (15)It sounds like you don't really need it right now so I'd put a door on it until its need really presents itself. In the meantime, you could consider adding the door and baseboard trim inside the closet. Also, is it HVAC in the ceiling? If yes, you may want to address/mask it so it's not something you see when you use the closet. Unless......... What's on the opposite side of the wall? Could you use the closet or floor space there?...See MoreUser
