glennsfc: No, I did not first glue the tarpaper to the particle board. I also tried a piece of the unused sheet vinyl with just some glue but that did not curl ... so it may not have been just the glue but maybe the vinyl/glue/tarpaper/particle board combination ...? The vinyl squares that were on the floor originally were just glued to the particle board by previous occupants. Some of the square tiles adhered good but most did not when I removed them. So tarpaper had been used in the past? That must have been what the people that suggested it to me were thinking then ... what is 'natural' linoleum? Growing up I always remember my folks talking about 'linoleum'& 'oilcloth' ... terms I don't hear anymore nor do I know what they were really! Our old house had not asbestos but what was called 'asphalt' tiles on the floor.

@cpartist I can't remove the tile, one, because I dont want to, two, I'm not skilled in doing that and don't want to mess up the wall and I also don't want to know what's behind the tile. I'm trying to make the wall look better without actually restructuring it. I wanted to cover the tile because I saw a lot of kitchens with the beadboard wallpaper and i thought it would be an inexpensive way to redo the walls. Also, there is one wall that does not have the tile on it. What can I do to "redo" the white tile to make it look new?

We just got our tile! We were also skeptical of ordering from Tile.Expert, but the online reviews and local pricing quotes on tile we really liked convinced us to give them a try. We've been planning far enough ahead on our remodel that a 9-week lead time was workable, and we were excited to have our small but heavy (1,377lbs!) pallet of tile delivered this week; with the freight driver noting that the tile was really well packed compared to some he's seen. The boxes were each tightly strapped to ensure no rattling or movement, then wrapped with a very strong, very thick shrink wrap that kept everything solidly in place, and then all that was strapped down further for it's trip from Italy to the PNW. We unpacked all of it the last two days to find there was not one single broken tile in the shipment, and it was exactly as we'd ordered, at a price well under what we could have gotten locally (we had local tile shop quote on the exact same material, with our designers discount, and it was still significantly higher). We'll try to post some pics once it's all installed in a couple of months:) but wanted to share our experience and recommend the tile.expert folks in the meantime!

To add to what Joseph said, if you have a cabinet more than about 33" wide, you need a 3/4" thick shelf, otherwise the shelf would sag in the middle. Longer shelves typically need a support at the middle. It's usually a shelf peg on the back of the center stile that the doors close to or in the back of the cabinet. Because they've got inset doors, these cabinets have no center stile.
