Really, the only thing on the menu I'd have to bypass is the egg--after losing a week of my life to food poisoning caused by raw egg in a restaurant (caesar dressing), I ONLY eat my eggs well-cooked these days. Otherwise, the menu sounds pretty interesting and I'd enjoy trying it.

They used the word amuses, italicized like that, instead of appetizers. Perhaps it's French? I never heard it before.

Yeah, "barely poached egg" turned me off, too. But so did the pork belly and lamb's tongues. I used to eat beef tongue, but wouldn't touch it now because it's so fatty. And lambs are just babies . . .

I love salads of all kinds, but I hope there was something more to the dressing than pureed cauliflower.

I could probably eat it except for the BARELY poached egg (ick).

That said I don't think those foods on one plate complement each other very much.

Reminds me somewhat of those mile-high burgers stacked with everything that they could manage to find space for in the fast food lockers. Or those grand slam type breakfast plates at the local diners.

Mixing foods up just to be different is NOT always better even if it's served on fine china and costs an arm and a leg.

I'm a bit of a food snob whether I'm eating fast food or fine cuisine. Perfectly prepared always trumps mixing up a fusion of flavors to hide your lack of cooking skills under the guise of creativity.

I'm afraid I got turned off early in the ingredients...I hate Brussel Sprouts, and a huge leaf of one made me gag before I got to the tongue or belly or rare egg!!

Well, I read that third word with an "n" instead of an "m", and everything went downhill from there. Crunchy lambs' tongues reminds me of the cute little lamb, and as I am Jewish, the braised pork belly (topped with a raw egg, omg) sounds awful.

I'm just rediscovering NY Magazine through its website. I subscribed to it for years, beginning with their very first issue when I lived in midtown Manhattan. Are you old enough to remember the competitions they used to run in every issue? So incredibly funny! Some of them were collected in a book called Thank You For the Giant Sea Tortoise. I might still have it.

I'll have to find out if the crossword puzzle is on their website. I have a book of Simon and Schuster crosswords at my bedside . . .

Well - the pear and shallots sounded OK. I know I don't have an adventurous palate but menu is way over the top. But I do like NY Magazine - I started the subscription while my daughter was attending college in NY and I look forward to it each week.

No. I wouldn't eat any of that crap. I have often been amazed by what the gourmets eat. Give me plain old home cooking...common stuff, well prepared. I am not adventuresome when it comes to food. My daughter and I have this conversation almost every week when we go out for lunch. She is always telling me about something she saw on some food program on cable tv and asking me if I would eat that...and the answer is always no, no, no and no!!! She says she would try anything. Not me.

I don't like lamb...under the best of situations. Would never consider eating a "crispy lamb tongue"...and I don't eat eggs...maybe one scrambled one every few years, but since I really don't enjoy them...may never eat one again, altho I do cook with them.

I don't eat anything that tastes like chicken...except chicken.

Love cauliflower, but as long as I have teeth, my plans are not to eat puree'd anything.

Sounds like a gross mixture of textures and flavors to me.
I swear that some of the so-called gormet chefs today,like to shock people with weird combinations...I think my taste buds would go into shock...not that theres anything wrong with each individual item,but together they wake up my gag reflex!

I had no idea bacon came from the belly of the pig. But then, I don't eat bacon either. It's not that I don't find it appealingÂI find it hugely appealing! But I try to avoid saturated fat.

Actually, for 20 years or so I didn't eat any part of a pig. It started when I read a news report of a pig who swam out into a lake to save a drowning child. That did it for me and pork. And ham. Somehow or other I started eating pork again at some point. After writing this, I'm thinking maybe I should stop.

And no, OJ, I would never eat veal. Never. I've seen pictures of what slaughterhouse employees and other charming folk do to those poor animals to keep their flesh white.

I would say "slightly poached" isn't necessarily cooked. To me, it means the outside is cooked, and the inside is a runny mass of salmonella bacteria.

I don't eat veal or lamb, period. I wouldn't eat a fawn, either. How come it's illegal to shoot a baby deer but not a baby cow or sheep? Something is just wrong there.

I am not impressed by fancy restaurants with their meager portions of exotic foods. I know some people are and that's fine, but I'll take a more casual restaurant any day.

When I was a young woman and had just gotten engaged, my future MIL invited me to dinner. She served beef tongue. Looked repulsive and eating it was like French kissing a cow! Yuck! I've never forgotten that meal!
